So I am not a DM yet just getting ready to try it for the first time this fall when our current pathfinder group breaks up. Looking to do LMoP because we will have 3 of the 4 players who havent played D&D before and is just now getting into pathfinder.
My question is that i know we will have roughly less than a year before 2 players will move away. LMoP seems fairly quick and i am hoping to make it last through thanksgiving or christmas if I can. Since i am still pretty new starting a homebrew seems really time so after is was thinking about starting another premade adventure centered on Waterdeep and the sword coast like the mad mage campaign.
But my main issue is the time constraint. I would love to make it come to a fulfilling end for group that doesnt make it feel cut and pasted together to skip vasts part of the story.
So far it has taken my group 6 sessions (we go for two hours) to reach halfway through LMoP. Depending on how often you meet up you should get through it in time.
Session zero took place in Neverwinter though.

Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!
If you don't have as many sessions as you'd like, you could talk to the group and see if they'd be into doing longer sessions. My usual sessions are 3-4 hours long, but you can definitely cover more ground if you hit 5-6 hours. It's a tall ask for some, but if everyone is excited it is definitely a discussion to have to see if you can push through all of the content.
I'm a little confused by your wording on the pacing.
It sounds like you are planning on starting in the fall, and are curious as to whether Lost Mines can then be completed by December. This is dependent on session time/number of sessions -- it took us about 36 hrs of game time.
It then sounds like you have till next fall to complete something else (ie Mad Mage) and are wondering if you can make it to a decent conclusion.
I think you can (depending on time, and what you want to skip). Keep in mind your characters will be level 4-5 at the end of Lost Mines, so can jump into the latter middle part of something else if you set up the plot hooks for them (and they bite). As a DM you can also always change the end goal and make it a bit shorter as well. A few months before your final game start making the plan to wrap things up.
