In Curse of Strahd, there are several points where the book suggests the use of a Greater Restoration, usually to restore the memories of an NPC. Since Greater Restoration really won't be available to the players until the very end of the campaign, I'm contemplating giving them a Necklace of Prayer Beads containing three beads of Greater Restoration, so they'll at least have the chance (although they're likely to use it during fights with Strahd). The GR spell isn't particularly powerful, and, as noted above, they'll most likely use it to counteract Strahd's bites, but it'll give them at least the chance to talk with Mordenkainen and Exethanter, so do you guys think this sounds like a good idea?
I might be wrong but I think the necklace of prayer beads restores spent beads at the beginning of each day. Maybe make one that has limited uses of the spell?
I think it would be fine to have one of the beads be Greater Restoration with the others being Cure Wounds and Bless. No OP at all.
You could also say that because they are in Barovia the beads don't recharge. As a item of the Morning Lord, it needs direct sunlight to charge and there is no direct sunlight in Barovia.

You could always have Van Richten help out with that. He might not have Greater Restoration prepared by default, but I think he can switch his spells around, and given how hyper prepared he was to enter Barovia (for crying out loud, he's even got a way to smuggle his soul out when he dies), he might have a pouch of diamond dust for the material components.
His ring will store his soul when he dies. The souls of the dead are as trapped as the living by the Mists, so usually, a dead soul would just hang around until it found some infant to be reborn as. If his soul is in the ring, a friendly Vistana (like Ezmerelda) can smuggle it out and release his soul somewhere it's safe from the mists

So long as the party has a cleric (or druid I think), you could give them a few scrolls of Greater Restoration, which I believe are one-time uses

Could you elaborate on this? I am currently running CoS and haven't seen anything about that
