im playing on a DnD Discord with some friends and other people, im not new to the game itself, we do play oneshots with a group up to 6 characters and so do they level up after each "mission".
This Mission is balanced for 4-6 PC about level 7-10
I finished my very first own "mission-preparations" and im really not sure if im just about to break 6 chars or we gonna have a totally awesome DnD evening. Thats why im looking for some feedback before im about to post the mission. what comes to your mind if you read the following setting.
A fresh up opened Dinosaur park calls out for help after nearly every Dinosaur broke through their enclosure and they are hunting each other, fighting or ambushing each other. So the group is teleported via teleportation scroll to the park. guards, worker stand by and try to deny any dinosaur to break out the park itself. The great wizard zoo director is unable to get all of those Dinos back where they belong to so the party has to do his job.
In this "Dino-Zoo" there are a lot of velociraptors (buffed in speed to 50ft) and due to PC speed is usually 30feet they wont have a great chance getting them and putting them back in one of the cages they are carrying on a cart. The whole Zoo map is split up into 6 smaller maps and each contains a possible encounter. Im using aggressive carnivores, not aggressive carnivores and friendly herbivore Dinosaurs. So the herbivores are peacful eating from trees or big brushes while those carnivores are sneaking behind them ready to ambush.
The party gets greater reward as many dinosaurs remain alive. So they can try and catch tiny/medium dinosaurs and put them back into a cage carryed on their cart or knocking them out. there are around 35 encounters in 6 Maps which mean its getting insanely tough to fight them. 2 Brontosaurus and 2 T-Rex as the strongest of those 35 as example.
Im listen my homebrew magic items the group can or should use to avoid as many "fights" as possible. Below any item and my thoughts about this item.
Record Breaker Boots: Double your walking speed on your next 2 ,including this on which you activate them, rounds and the first opportunity attack you would take as you run by a enemy creature on your round misses . You gain as long as your boots are active 20 feet of climbing speed. Afterwards you gain the first level of exhaustion if you do not already have. After a Shortrest your Stamina is regained you can use these boots again and your Exhaustion is gone. To Activate these boots you need a bonus action.
Thoughts: Every partymember can obtain one of these Boots. With doubled movespeed its easier for them to catch those tiny velociraptors on the Map they are acting but also makes the contesting of grapple tougher later on. As the party fills up the cart and the cages with those tiny and medium Dinosaurs they are about to do a STR check how fast they can travel through the zoo, as more player using those boots the more difficult its about to get fast through the zoo to be in time to save every Dinosaur.
Dino-Flute: To Use this Flute you have to do a performance Check and if the Check is 15 or higher, this Flute cast the Sleep spell on up to 2 Creatures you can see and which can hear you. If the creature is not inherent aggressive it will fall asleep, otherwise it has to succeed a dc 13 Whis save to not fall asleep. This Flute has 3 Charges.
Thoughts: If the party has a high Charisma Character even more having Prof in performance a DC 15 Check should not be too hard? At all using this flute shall negate atleast 1 or 2 total encounters, like those ankylosaurus or brontosaurus. Or even further to stop cornivore dinosaur to stop attacking others. But if that character did use the boots early on, the DC 15 becomes difficult due to the exhaustion level.
Super net ball (TH, Thrown) Distance increase with your Strength stat. 0-10 Strength up to 10 feet 10-15 Strength 20 Feet 15 Strength and upwards 30feet you have to throw it atleast 10 feet you cant use this Ball in close-combat. You can use this Ball to throw it and you have to hit the creature (STR + PROF+1(Magic)) As you hit the creature the ball opens up and a huge Net flys out and restrains the the creature and it falls prone til the start of his next turn then it can make a strength saving throw DC 13 to be free but stil prone. Works Only as long as the Creature as exactly 2 Feet and is not bigger than Huge.
Thoughts: Its a Way to stop the fight between cornivores and herbivores dinosaur so the carnivore may turn around and attack the way smaller PC instead of big dinosaurs so its potentially another dino or more who may survive this whole mess. This ball is designed to especially stop the T-Rex from killing every other herbivore they are attacking.
So here my question, do you think this whole plot looks fair? Dinos fighting each other all around and you are the one to stop this mess, preferring non lethal attacking, dino flute and net ball to stop the combat between dinosaurs, running around and catching really fast running tiny dinosaurs, making the whole run through even harder and slower so there might some dino`s dying to those two T-Rex? On the otherside of the park fighting a lot of smaller Dinos those two Brontosaurus but they are actually no match for them so the herbivore may kill the carnivore if the group is too slow?
If this post is set up in the wrong section im sorry, im new to dnd beyond forums.
Im not an english native speaker, so forgive me any grammar fails i did.
