Hey everyone, I've been playing D&D as player for a few years now and played through a few one-shots hosted by people of the group. And I decided it was my time to pitch in as well, so I decided to have a Fate Grand Order themed oneshot.
For this however, I need to transform around 8 or so servants from the game into D&D character's that my players can play alongside themselves (yes I make them make a character sheet of themselves lol). And of course, doing this with little knowledge of what's balanced and what's not makes me eager to share it with people for feedback. So I made a Servant Sheet for one of the servants already picked which you can find here .
So my question would be if it's somewhat okay. There are a lot more rules that I haven't mentioned here because I don't want to drown you in information.
Any feedback is welcome, and question will be answered the best I can!
Well, the power level of the servants in the Anime imho easily matches that of a level 20 character. At least. They are supposed to be legendary heroes after all.
So... your Nobunaga actually seems weak compared to the Anime version. :D
A few questions, though:
- do you want the Anime power level or do you want something a little less over the top?
- are your players supposed to be the magicians fighting the war against each other? Or are they one team?
If they are all on one team, it is easy. If they are supposed to fight each other things are more difficult. Since everyone sits at the same table expect some serious meta-gaming.
To get somewhat balanced servants I would create the servants as level 16 characters. That is the end of Tier 3 and just before the spell casters get to wish their enemies dead once per day.
The players should probably be at least level 10 for this, since the Anime shows some of them holding up against servants.
Haha yeah, in anime everything seems possible in combat.
But no, for the session I indeed wanted some more "normal" combat since it would get too confusing and intimidating imo. As for PVE or PRP, they can decide if they want to fight themselves or just the baddies. I'm going to give some people from the group an introsession with Jeanne who tells them that they're trapped and that they need to work together to beat the avenger end boss Edmond Dantes. But some others will meet him, who tells them that they need to fight each other to the death as it is a Holy Grail war, so their servants should only work together with their master.
Also, I don't plan to use much of a class from D&D for the servants aside from the hit dice, saving throws and whatnot. Each servant gets 1 attack per turn (except for berserkers, they get 2 if they landed their first attack).
For casters I have yet to figure out what could work, but I'm first waiting to see if someone even gets a caster servant so I won't end up wasting my time.

Ok. If you don't want to use classes, the DMG has a section on building monsters and calculating their offensive, defensive and average CR.
That would be a good guideline to have the servants roughly balanced.
