So my group has just come out of killing and stopping a major war. They chased the bad guy into the faywild through a portal where thy killed him. The portal closed behind them were thy are now. One of the players is a princes that was taken like Rapunzel from her home who was saved by one of the other players. The bad guy that thy killed was the princes's Uncle who was attempting to get back to the faywild also to over through the kingdom. I know that they are going to want to make there way to her kingdom but I'm not sure how to go about all of that being in the faywild. Thy are on the other side of a continent so part of there challenge would be making there way through the faywild. So I'm just looking for some ideas and things for them to do as thy make there way to the kingdom and ultimately back to the material plan. If you have any ideas or quest that would work with them making there way to the kingdom or anything really.
Not so much a quest, but rather an encounter! My party had a fey encounter where they stumbled on a theater performance in the woods. One of the actors injured themselves and the narrator of the play invited one of the players (in mine it was the rich heiress, which is very similar to the princess idea!) to replace them. Little did they know that the whole crowd was illusory and the actors were fey...well... the barbarian figured out but he wanted to see how it all played out so he didn't say anything.
They acting bit was a fight scene where as the Narrator Npc i said stuff like "The hero swung and missed the crafty villan!" and the player would have to attempt to miss (i gave disadvantage if she described how she missed) or "The hero strikes a mighty blow!" and let her roll to attack. There were a lot of improvised performance checks for good stage presence. All this made the PC super pleased with herself. at the end i had the narrator say "You were fantastic! Could I please have your name!" and when she gave him her name, she GAVE HIM her NAME. He smiled and vanished along with the rest of the troupe, left behind a small bag of 50 GP as payment for the name, and every time she or any other player said her name, all they heard was garbled static.
It went really good because as an heiress, her name was like her whole pride and it made some good character development moments as she tried to cope that without her name.. who is she?
They eventually used remove curse to get her name back, but they currently have some pissed off fey enemies in the world because they technically stole her name back (The fey paid for it after all lol)
I didn't use this as a full length quest, but it made a really fun fey-related encounter! I feel like with some work, it could be made into a side quest or something!
