I could need a helping hand to start my new campaign (sorry if I am at the wrong forum, new here). I've got the rough plot (down below), but i struggle to give the region/circumstances after the first encounter. Maybe you got some nice and not to standard ideas how to follow up.
The rough plot is that the players encounter infected animals that go on a rage and attack other living beings. The monk couldn't decide if he wants to play a blind char so i'm gonna infect him with the disease, leaving open if his eyes can be healed or go permanently blind after beating the infection. So there is a reason to search for the source of the infection. (Demon that gets strength throug the illness, infection an elven civ in a desert, egyptian like)(got the idea from Jazza/yt).
They start in another part of the continent meeting in the wild lands, so i need a something that gets them together as a group and sends them kind of in the right direction, but i can't get up with something else than:- there's a small village, they tell you to ask/burn the local witch or: a small village/town is attacked/corrupted by a cult leading to the deamon.
Another thing is that i dont want them to rush to the demon, but let the disease slowly infect the continent but give them space so they arent railroaded.
It seems to me like each one coming across something to do with the infection and being led into the same location to investigate should work... is there some reason it can't? You might need to start them closer to the epicenter than it sounds like you were going to, but it should work if you just shift the starting locale.
Then... the monk gets it in the eyes, and is told to go here to seek out a cure... the warlock's pet puppy is stricken ill... the paladin's horse... and so on. They all get clues to go to some village and there they find out some of what is going on.

WOTC lies. We know that WOTC lies. WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. We know that WOTC knows that we know that WOTC lies. And still they lie.
Because of the above (a paraphrase from Orwell) I no longer post to the forums -- PM me if you need help or anything.
You can do this OOC also... as a DM you need to prepare. If they have finished the adventure and are at the end of the session you can ask them to tell you as players, what they want to do next. They can always RP this next session, but you need to make up maps and monsters and stuff, so it is fair for you to ask the players what they want you to prep (so that you can prep it).
I just did this with my group. There are 4 or 5 places they could go next (actually, probably 14, although 4 or 5 are closer and more likely than the others). There were two main, very different ones, they mentioned at the end of the session. I asked them to decide between sessions which one. We have 2 weeks between sessions. After 1 week, I finally prompted them and said, they need to decide, or I won't have time to prep. Some back-and-forth by email and they now have decided, and I know what I need to prep.
But THEY decided where they wanted to go, not me.

Seems like you have some good ideas. You just need a hook to get the party together. I'd give each character a separate motivation to want to stop the witch burning. Say one character is the witch's sister or lover or mother. Another has a clue to the real cause of the problems the townspeople / priest are blaming the witch for. Etc.
Then you need a hook, out, to the next clue as to the cause of the plague. Maybe two characters were given clues in session 0, which make sense when combined together.

I'm having more a hard time with: the group met at this first encounter...what now?
Can you let them decide that? Maybe they will come up with a good next thing to do.
