The characters can still use the position of the sun and stars (when visible) to determine general direction. So generally north/south/east/west are something they can figure out at least from time to time when the cloud cover is thinner.
Does the party have a guide? The guide is likely to remember the terrain reasonably well and should at least be able to guide the party to major rivers.
Does the party know where Omu is expected to be either exactly or approximately?
If there are one or more characters proficient with survival they should be able to determine at least the general direction (assuming they knew it was south east or south for example). You could also give the party some skill checks to see what they remember of the map (some players may actually remember some of the major features so you could give them a blank and see how much they can reproduce - might be a fun mini-game).
They have gotten information on the whereabouts of Omu and it’s relation to the death curse from NPCs they’ve met, including Valindra Shadowmantle who took the map from them when they brought it out into view.
They have a crude map they obtained from a red wizard encounter which has an unnamed X marked on the general location of Omu in between the mountain ranges to the south.
I’m thinking to increasing the navigation Survival check to DC 18 instead of 15

I am running TOA for my friends. They lost their map of Chult during an encounter at Heart of Ubtao.
Any thoughts on how we should handle their navigation through the jungles at this point as they search for the city of Omu?
Are you running digitally or at a table?
If it is digital, putting down some kind of fog of war on the digital map would enhance the feeling of no longer having a view of direction.
If you are playing physically - using a dry erase mat to draw out their surroundings could be an option.

They did not choose to bring a guide.
