Hey y'all, I'm Doug, and I've come to flex my art muscles! ᕦ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)ᕤ
For a year now I've been DM'ing a homebrew game for some friends online over Discord and Roll20. Between games, I've been taking the time to craft maps and art to complement their game. In my homebrew world of Gundhr, magic is dwindling and dragons are no more. My players have hailed from the Northern Kingdoms of Hosinfel to settle newly discovered lands to the west, the whole continent of Nolyn (hopefully you can right click and open image in another tab to see it in full details).
This is my latest map and has a lot of unnamed landmarks and things since I keep the map hidden and only reveal relevant areas, those dozens of unnamed rivers aren't a huge concern right now, but as they explore new lands to the west, they might get the chance to name some landmarks. :D
I've done this map following a familiar layout that a lot of you might recognize, which I first experimented with in a map I made for a one-shot (kind of overkill, I know), set in the southern kingdoms of Taiji. A land ruled by an emperor and their three generals, where magic is feared and tightly controlled.
Likewise, there's a lot of unnamed things further south, because the one-shot took place over a single city and some wilderness area, but the map was still a lot of fun to illustrate and fill-in.
Additionally, this is the party I have been DM'ing for; lots of homebrew races. Except for the Aasimar, who had to leave the party.
And because we use Discord, we've set up some talking icons for everyone, since most of them are camera-shy or don't have webcams.
Very impressive. In particular, I like the way you denoted extra stuff (like travel routes, etc.) on the topographical maps without cluttering it with too much text.
That I did! I learned a lot from getting these maps together. Even though I was a frustrated mess with all the calculations, it was worth it to surprise my players with all these deliciousness. Thanks :D

I looked at maaaany sources to get references for how to do things properly, but maps normally don't name small things when the scale is as big as those. It was a big challenge, but I like the final result! x)
I hope your players praise you as DM of the century. Lucky SOBs!
I'd kill to find an open slot in a game let alone have a DM this passoinate about the hobby!
Metaphorically speaking I'd be happy with a PB&J and your players are getting filet mignon and prime rib...again, lucky SOBs.
I actually fear that I might be setting their expectations quite high for future games they might join without me. If this also taught me something is that homebrewing a whole world is too much work and just using an already established setting might be better everyone XD
I am really loving your art, particularly your avatars, its such a clean and expressive style you have. I'm also curious about your octo-folk race, seems like a cool concept.
The Discord avatars are awesome, that is a great Idea. I just recently got my fiance, sister, niece, and nephew into playing D&D by using discord with the Avrae app and they love it, the more art and character I can pull into the server the more they seem to enjoy it, so this is inspiring.

Why, thank you! Been working very hard to get these expressions just right.

Oh yeah, having all sorts of visual aid improves the overall experience like nothing else :D

Wow, you have put lot of work for all this stuff.

Han-Tai... from the dream of the fisherman's wife?
You've spoiled them. They are ruined for future DMs.

I am a square. Watch me equilateral.

As for the Octo-folk race (along with most of the other ones), we pilfered them from this homebrew here https://homebrewery.naturalcrit.com/share/SkirR3ee-
