Hello all, I am trying to run the hard cover story for tyranny of dragons in AL. But I was told I need to convert it to AL. This is one of my first times DMing in AL and the guy that told me to look for this so called adaptation guide wasn't being helpful.
If there is no document then how do I run the book so that it is AL legal https://100001****/.
The Adaption Guide is how you run it as AL legal. How it works is that you can run most of the book as written, but there are some adjustments that need to be made to the adventure to make it appropriate for AL play. Those adjustments are found in the Adaption Guide (in this case in DD_Adventurers_League_Adaptation_Guide_2014-21_v1.0, but starting with Wild Beyond the Witchlight each book has its own Adaption Guide). You can find the Adaption Guides (or at least a link to them) in the the #al-updates channel on the official Dungeons and Dragons Discord server.
Since the guidance for ToD is short ... I'll just quote it in case the OP still needs it. There is also a list of general Story items and banned items you should check.
As with all AL content, magic items acquired during a session will duplicate into the logs of every character playing the session. However, if you (as DM) feel that this will negatively impact the experience of the module for the characters you can ask the players to voluntarily bring only one copy of the magic item into the next session. I use this request along with requesting the players to only level when the DM asks them to do so to make the hardcover play as close to intended as possible while remaining AL legal. (As an example, I ran Dragon of Ice Spire Peak and one of the encounters results in a +1 weapon and another a sword of dragon slaying. This was the first hardcover I was running for AL so I let the +1 sword duplicate - which made the entire wererat encounter later in the book much easier than it might have been. As a result, I asked the party to bring along only one sword of dragon slaying for the final encounter of the adventure :) ).
Here is the ToD guidance.

Hey @Rubahak; would you please either give a link to the Discord, or message me links for the adaptation stuff pre-Witchlight? I seem to be bit of a moron when it comes to Google, and just can't find any of it... #sad #glum #annoyed
