That has a few (don't know how common or odd) assumptions:
No GP spend for anything (no rations, no weather gear, no healing potions, no spell services, etc.).
Player gets full GP per hour/session.
This was certainly my experience in season 9. Eberron and season 10 were less charitable, and I haven't played before then.
I think the bigger question is why bother having GP in current AL? Replace it with a basic equipment list for tier 1 (max armor, max weapon), ban or limit the 'problem' spells. declare a max type of Armor per tier. Basically just carry through with the same philosophy as they used to limit magic items.
For weapons and armor, this certainly makes sense. But for a bunch of other (optional) adventuring gear, scrolls, potions, and spellcasting services having no GP limits would be hard to balance.
I had to DM for a Necromancer Build. I had to limit him to 5 skeletons with long bows and plate armour. So unlimited gold can be a problem. Also one season I had a group that had 3 and a half staffs of the magi.
Three staff of the magi I understand ... I have them on two characters (though only one can still use it at the moment - the other isn't tier 4 yet) after the ridiculous and braindead "evergreen" list in season 8. The "half" I don't understand unless someone put one on a character that couldn't use it because it was too good to pass up and didn't mind loaning it out during a session.

I not giving room numbers. The week before it was only one staff of magi with the other 3 players in a magic card tourney. The group was on the Arcturiadoom level when the party got split due to dungeon hazards. Leaving the sorcerer with the staff all alone. He comes across a hobgoblin gym where he kills them all. The hobgoblin choir next door hears the combat and opens the door. The sorcerer misty steps into the choir room and breaks the staff. It leaves only one hobgoblin alive. I ruled Halaster had locked down the planar travel. SInce, AL allows you raise dead between session, the sorcerer was back the next session.
For giggles, i said the half of the staff survive. (And the player said he was going to keep it.) So this session with no magic tourney at store, the other three casters show up with their staffs of magi. With 3 staves, they wiped Arcturiadoom level. I started counting the Staff of Magi as another player for encounters.
I do have the two campaign write ups if you want me to private message them to you. (If that is allowed.)
