I'm going to be running a Jumanji inspired one shot next week and was looking for some inspiration from fellow DMs on how to really make it great. The game is on a strict timer, which works well, characters will be trapped in the pocket dimension if they fail to beat the game within the allotted time. I'll have a simple board set up to track their progress and the party will share a single piece on the track. Each will get a turn to roll and move and usually trigger some kind of event. So far I'm thinking some outcomes:
Combat (Short but deadly, burns resources)
Skill Challenges of sort, flooded chamber etc.
Puzzles to unlock the board and continue playing.
Maybe buffs or debuff if they pass a simple test/riddle.
I'd love to gather some ideas, suggestions and feedback from some of the great minds here!
Im still brushing up on the game's rules, and working on some riddles to reflavor the cards. I only have it for combat and skill challenges, right now. Im running a campaign, so i could make this more than a few sessions, but i think no more than 3.
a possible buff/reward the players could get is a (board piece move) reroll? I'm thinking it might spark debate among the players when to use it to avoid something bad on the board or save it till later
