What do you have to say to me, then? I've had numerous successful campaigns wherein the players' characters were things taken from the monster manual, and I've avoided all the things you are saying will inevitably cause problems by being a problem-solving and problem-preventing DM, rather than a DM that enables problems to occur and then blame those problems on the players to such a degree that I consider players as being completely untrustworthy game-wreckers that will ruin everything if I don't stop them from having "ooh... can I play a [blank]?" style desires and/or boot them from my games.
You keep touting your own experiences as if they are the only possible experiences, and that's immensely incorrect.
People, i think the topic has gone way off hand. I discussed the limits for the player and reached and agreement hopefully he'll have fun playing it.
Here is how i went with it:
1- You can't at any point transform to a devil permanently outside what the game allows. (He himself said he never wanted it to happen)
2- Resurrection will go as normal with exception in a reskin fashion that both souls get sent t the nine hells to be tormented until the person is resurrected as they are linked with each other.
3- If anything that feels too game breaking he'll have to abandon his character to either be turned into an npc or permanently killed which the player agreed on.
4- the spells that allows others to see his true self will have a homebrew affect as they will sense something in him but it isn't too obvious.
I am sorry if my question caused a lot of problems in this thread. If it went badly it'll be a lesson for me and if it went well every one will be happy and thank you everyone for your help and again i apologies if i caused any problems.

Born under the watch of something from the furthest corners of the far realms.... It knows all.... it sees all... and it asks: "What is it that you want to see?"... and my answer is... ALL"
You didnt cause any problems apparently someone decided to take an exemple of play at face value. If anything my fault. But anyway yeah talking with the player is the best.

.......................I am sorry if my question caused a lot of problems in this thread.
So the topic went way off thread? That's not a problem; some people answered your question with differing opinions and those opinions were then discussed and even challenged (oh the horror of it!) Conversations are only linear in fiction.
Questions don't cause problems. They promote debate and seek answers.
Post as many questions or opinions as you like. But grab a sturdy walking staff and a packed lunch, because you never know where questions will lead....
