As the title says I'm running a match with 2 rangers and a warlock/fighter classes all lvl 1 at the moment (the dual class is starting as a warlock) everyone is new to playing, but at least understands the game and I myself have only ran 2 games before this( this is my frist homebrew)
Which Monsters are best for encounters?
My game also has a twist to it.. they will all die once they get together and become undead versions of themselves and will have to figure out how to reverse that.
Depends on what you mean by 'best'. The PCs will do the best in situations with long sight ranges where they can outrange their opponents, worst in situations where the monsters can get close in before being attackable.
I mean ones that will encourage them to fight and think they can win without it being over barring. I know goblins and kobalds are good for lvl one encounters.
Monsters are given "Challenge Ratings" (CR), which is searchable in the Monster database. You can also use the Encounter Builder tool.
A "CR 1" monster is generally suitable for a party of four level 1 players. However, a group of four "CR 1/4" monsters might be a little more difficult due to action economy.
Use the various resources here and in the DMG to build your encounters according to the desired difficulty level.
