Hi have run a campaign much like this one, They didn’t start at level 20 but the players where in a time loop. There’s was Groundhog Day. Every day at 28 past midnight something would happen to kill any of them that had survived the day, the world would reset and they would be exactly where they were when the campaign started.
The campaign lasted 2.5 years and took them to level 15 before they ended the loop.
The thing with this was it didn’t force a path on them, eventually they found a way to “save” items each day and not reset themselves while the town around them did reset.
