Honestly it's a simple fix to turn an existing campaign into a sky island campaign. Draw squiggly circles around key locations and delete the rest. You then just have to make some minor adjustments like adding flying mounts and stuff.
Hoard of dragon queen could be cool to turn into an air ship campaign. It already has a flying fortress and lots of dragons which fly. The sky island of greenest is attacked from a small cave found at the bottom of their island. The players need to repel down to investigate before joining a sky caravan ...
One time I kind of want to make a list of random modifier like Under dark, sky lands, under water or ravenloft and then use them to modify campaigns at random. They just mix up the travel mechanics, hazards and enemies really. Its not a big deal to take a city and put in a cave or its own pocket dimension of torment.
I am running two campaigns in a skyship based world; the islands are on the water (mostly) but surface travel is impossible due to the dangers of Kraken, so flight is the only means to travel between islands.
I used a Traveller campaign called 'The Pirates of Drinax' as the basis. Treat the planets as islands, the spaceships as fantasy skyships and away you go. This campaign is considered one of the best sandbox campaigns ever made and I have learnt a lot from it. Basically I set up a stretch of ocean, drew some islands, identified four significant islands and created the rest as needed.
If you need 5e ship rules there are several options out there. The one I use is 'A Complete Guide to Nautical Campaigns'. It brings the players to the forefront and it has just the right amount of crunch (your taste may vary).
Also good is 'Pirate Campaign Compendium' if you are going to have pirates. Which you should, of course. I note that one of the adventures here is very similar to a Drinax adventure.
In general search for any pirate themed campaigns and adventures. You may want to replace the Sahuagin and other water based races and creatures with their flying equivalents. I am doing this with 'Call from the Deep' in one of my campaigns and players are enjoying it. Got to love the mind flayers.
Finally a personal favourite is 'The Secret of Skyhold Tower' adventure. Easily adapted since the threat is a flying wizard's tower heading for crash with a campaign city. I made the city a flying city, made the means of access by skyship and have now run it on both campaigns with great success. The only downside is the maps are terrible in this VTT+online era, so I made my own using Dungeondraft
Hello there,
I am looking for a campaign setting/adventures with floating islands and airships. Maybe like Ghosts of Saltmarsh but in the air instead of the sea.
I have found some adventures here and there like Around Khorvaire in Fifty Days but not too much…
I guess you'll have to invent some homebrew!
Sigh… no time in real life
However I just found one that looks cool in kickstarter:

Here is one from DMDave called Flight of the Predator, https://www.patreon.com/posts/33335114
Thank you very much!
