Iam creating a Medusa Queen and iam kinda stuck on lair actions, if you guys could lend me a hand with some ideas that would be quite helpful.
Its "lair" will be a throne room so my first idea was to put in some gargoyles as minions to activate on a lair action, and thats where my brain decided to shut down.
I made a CR 9 (CR 10 in lair) medusa a while ago. It had lair actions and regional effects.
Lair actions:
On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the medusa takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects, as long as it's not incapacitated; the medusa can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:
The medusa animates one of the statues in its lair as a gargoyle under its control. The gargoyle reverts to a statue after 1 round.
The medusa conjures forth a swarm of poisonous snakes at a point it can see. The swarm is under the medusa's control and dissipates after 1 round.
Regional effects:
The region containing a legendary medusa’s lair is plagued by the medusa's curse, which creates one or more of the following effects:
A creature within 1 mile of the medusa's lair that spends at least 1 minute looking at its reflection must succeed on a DC 8 Constitution saving throw or gradually transform into a medusa over the course of 1 month. A creature under the effect of protection from evil and good or any spell that the DM deems similar, such as bless or aid, is immune to this regional effect. Any effect that removes a curse (such as remove curse or greater restoration) can stop the transformation before it is finished.
A creature that fails a saving throw against poison within 1 mile of the lair must make a DC 8 Constitution saving throw. If the saving throw fails by 5 or more, the creature is instantly petrified. Otherwise, a creature that fails the save begins to turn to stone and is restrained. The restrained creature must repeat the saving throw at the end of its next turn, becoming petrified on a failure or ending the effect on a success. The petrification lasts until the creature is freed by the greater restoration spell or other magic.
Snakes of all sorts, venomous and non-venomous, within 1 mile of the medusa's lair deal an extra 3 (1d6) poison damage on a bite, as do hydras, kamadans, and other multi-headed or snake-haired creatures, except other medusae.
If the medusa dies, these effects fade over the course of 1d4 days.
I hope that helps.
