I just wanted to start a thread for people to ask questions and get advice about running Keys From The Golden Vault. My current bright idea is to use some of the heists to pad out Waterdeep Dragon Heist, since that adventure has a distinct lack of heists.
I've been reading the Murkmire Maalevolence, and I have this very odd problem. I can't figure out how the museum stairs work. On both the "hand drawn" map the PC's receive, and the Dm's map, it looks like the stairway is on top of the 2nd floor map-there's no indication of a cutout in the floor to accommodate them. The complete set of stairs, full size, is part of the floor plan of both areas. I guess we can assume that the stairs open onto the V14 hallway area and guests walk around the stairwell? So there's only a 5' viewing area in front of the allosaurus before you fall down the stairwell? Ok I guess. The other problem is really nerdy. I teach high school geometry. The stairs are 10 feet long, and the text says that the museum ceilings are 30' high. So in 10', the steps climb 30' at least? That means that the steps climb at a 70 degree angle. Those are some steep stairs for a museum.
Am I just being too picky? I have to admit I'm kind of bummed that there's such a lack of attention to detail on the map when the specifics of the map are going to be super important to a heist adventure.
It's more of a ladder in practical use, the construction would likely require 45-46 steps that are 7-8" tall and 2-3" deep. You could use it in game like this. Maybe the stairs have some magical property that alters the fabric of dimensional space? I mean, we do have Bags of Holding and Magnificent Mansion.
“Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.” - Mark Twain - Innocents Abroad

Just homebrew up the ol' Stairs of Levitating? That may be what I do. My other option is to gloss over it and hope the players don't notice, or to alter the dimensions of the map...but that would be tougher to do without messing up the basic layout of things...
Thank you for the response.
