so, that third addendum of creatures dropped. i wasn't expecting that. regardless of it's intended use (which i have not sussed out quite yet, so maybe you could inform me), will these creatures show up in your campaigns? if so, are they just going to pour out of a rift or are your players washing their spelljammer up onto pixelated shores? what use are these cubes??
While I like the idea of a Minecraft crystal sphere (perhaps called "Blockspace"), my players aren't going to be encountering, say, a creeper or enderman.
Instead, they'll encounter a "man-sized leaf-and-twig monster", which is prone to self-destruction thanks to its sulphur-rich environment.
Or a "short, lanky, navy-skinned, one-eyed humanoid" whose large eye allows it to teleport erratically at-will. If the eye isn't damaged in combat, the party can use it to teleport a distance, at which point the eye crumbles to sparkly dust.
Basically I'm saying that I'm going to reskin the stat blocks.
i've been wondering what the circumstances are behind what appear to be constructs of canvas wrapped tight around a frame. awakened scarecrow? but then why would a scarecrow be camouflaged?? at least the volatiles make some sense: take that, crows! or perhaps it's a sheet-with-holes-in cliche-bending ghost that's decided to go with a 'specter of war' motif?
"leaf-and-twig monster" makes more sense, though. enough sense anyway. there's plenty a dm can do with hissing vengeful nature spirits. thank you for that.

Tbh the leaves are based on how Notch (transphobic creator of Minecraft who disappeared from the internet years ago, long story) once described that he believes creepers are likely made of crunchy, volatile leaves and foliage.
A few years ago, I made a homebrew monster inspired by the creeper, called a Cacteye. It lurks in the desert, disguised as a cactus. When a creature gets too close to it, its large eye opens, relealing its true nature, and explodes if its victim doesn't get away in time. Also, they're really fast.
I'd have to reskin them heavily but I think some of the mechanics for these monsters could be taken and used to create some interesting encounters. The creepers especially.
The characters live in a vast multiverse. I don't see why strange otherworldly beings can't leak into other planes of existence now and then. Reskinning them doesn't seem necessary. I just need to make sure the players don't metagame. I might try to draw a non-cubed version of the monsters and say that they have always been weird creatures in my world. But I might just have a blocky green creature start hissing in the middle of my player's camp in the middle of the night.
If I run an encounter with a portal to another world, I might have several of these monsters come out of it if anything goes wrong in the portal's construction.
i can't decide whether or not i want an official word as to whether stepping into the minecraft wildspace bubble would render the player blocky or if they would simply be a stranger in a very strange land. same for mobs leaking into our world. maybe i'll wait to see if they scoop up a lego world before i press the issue.

Yeah, I don't think I would want it to be made official in any way. That seems unnecessary. I would say that it is kind of random. Inter-dimensional travel is so complicated that anything can happen. Sometimes the traveler's form changes to accept the nature of the new plane, this can be very disconcerting for the traveler. Sometimes the traveler stays in their natural form, but they stand out in the new world. They would be completely and utterly alien, almost incomprehensible. But I think I would want it to depend on the desires of the DM or players. Making it official takes away some of the freedom.

I was already planning on making a Minecraft campaign so this is perfect for me
"Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever. Amen" - 1 Timothy 1:17

i guess one doesn't turn to a fish (or liquid!) when one visits the plane of water for groceries, so maybe i'm overthinking :D
