Running Call of the Netherdeep and have come to a snag that has ignited discussion amongst my players and leaves me to make decisions that I don't I have solid answers for.
The group have arrived in Cael Morrow (drowned, ruined city) and exploring it is all underwater, the following section (The Netherdeep) is also entirely underwater.
How would you rule the usage of potions and the bag of holding?
Maybe potions are air that the players can inhale. When under water and the potion is opened a small bubble comes out that would be inhaled before reaching the surface and disappearing. Not sure if this is a great idea but it might work in your game.
I actually don’t own the adventure currently, but the general question is pretty great. If the party has water breathing, I’d say they can drink and benefit from potions as normal (oils that require being applied like being smeared across the body would not be doable). If they don’t have water breathing, the only potion they can drink is one of water breathing and doing so will lead to a massive reaction (if you’ve seen The Abyss, think of the scene where the guy is “drowned” in fluid that adapts his body to breathing liquid). In regards the Bag of Holding, I feel like the Bag only allows things to be placed that the bearer wants to be placed within, or that are actively placed / shoved. So the water rushing into the bag and possibly ejecting its contents would not happen. The only way the contents would be ejected is if the bag was turned inside out, damaged, or accidentally overloaded. I’d say that the overloading requires item placement and not accidental absorption or whatever, but that’s off the top of my head. It’s implied that air will cycle in and out of the bag, as creatures within can run out of air and this it’s likely that air is restored when the bag is opened again.

Hey,

Any help/tips would be appreciated.
