So, I've played Horde of the Dragon Queen as a player, and despite its many flaws enjoyed it overall.
I'm running a highly tweaked version of chapter one for my group soon. One thing I very much want to change is the relative futility of most of the "Missions."
The sanctuary is pretty solid. So, I'm going to keep that as-is. Cyanwrath and the dragon are too cool to lose, but I'd like to have at least one more option to present for the party as an alternate to the sanctuary. The pitch being that they'll only have time to save one. A Sophie's Choice sort of thing. The obvious choice would be The Mill mission, but that one feels like such an futile endeavor. I'd hate to throw the party into it.
Has anyone made any substantial changes to that mission that made it more rewarding... or any of the others for that matter?
