Hey, I am a relatively new DM. I am currently planning my next session that will lead my players to an old quarry. They are 6 level 5 characters and I want to design the quarry around one or two alignements my players need to play around when it comes to fights and puzzles maybe. I also would like to ask what enemies could fit into a quarry or what enemies do you have in mind when thinking about a quarry. Same question for the alignments. I was thinking about blind because enemies could use the dust in the quarry to get an advantage or something like that.
I am looking forward for some hints and inspiration :)
The quarry is home to a Galeb Duhr and maybe a few Dust Mephits or Mud Mephits. The Galeb Duhr was living relatively peacefully with the locals but a greedy miner stole rare minerals or gems from an area that was designated for the Galeb Duhr. The grumpiness of the elemental has tainted the surroundings, spawning the Mephits, which now harass the locals. The party must clear out the Mephits, maybe learn what has made the Galeb Duhr angry, and solve the case o the stolen materials.
Option two:
The quarry is a salt mine that has recently been sold to a local merchant by its previous owner. The workers have recently gone on strike because they claim the mine is haunted or laired by a creepy tentacle monster. The party is hired to investigate and discovers signs that some monsters have recently been relocated to the cave. A pair of Grell Psychics are lurking about. However, it seems a Flumph is loose in the mines as well. The Flumph claims that it and its family were captured by a group of strangers and transported in crates for release in the mines. The Flumps family has not yet been released and is being held at another location back in town. Investigating this lead, the party finds a group of Thugs with orders to seed the mines with monsters to scare off the workers in a plot to drive the merchant out of business so that the previous owner can buy back the mine for cheap.
Oh damn thank you so much for these detailed ideas :) I really like the first one since it kind off fits into my setting and I will let it inspire me for my next session this weekend :)
