My understanding, from the picture, is that the area of each tile is 5 square feet. So the side of each tile would be 2.24 feet, fitting well in the corridor.

That seems incredibly misleading given that when referring to 5 feet squares in 5e, it's always in regards to a square 5 feet on each side as represented on a mini's grid. They really need to word that better.
