I started a group of players in the free lesser caverns adventure when it was released. I then gave them pretext to journey elsewhere and return after the full book adventure was released.
I admit not having read the entirety of the adventure at the beginning as it is the type of dungeon in which the room contents do not tend to have much impact on the others. Last night, the party decided to explore previously unexplored areas of the greater caverns, despite having slain the final boss the week before.
To say I was confused would be an understatement, and we could pile on a large helping of annoyance to discover that one of the rooms in the final version was pretty much the contents of the last room in the upper level. Why in the world would they give us a free first level of a two-level dungeon only to rewrite it and change rooms of encounters in the final cut?!
I simply took the gorgon and chimera from the rewritten lesser cavern room and replaced the Behir down below (previously killed up above)
Did anyone else notice this quizzical alteration of the text? I would love to hear how you reacted and your theory on why they would alter the adventure between the two publications.
