Hi all. I asked for advice ages ago, ended up buying Storm Kings thunder and I am just reading it now.
I am a newish DM(well I used to play in the 80s)...and my new players, who are now level 5 having finished Phandevler are looking to move on with the same charactrers.
I have just got in to reading Storm Kings (early parts, chapter 2 onwards as per level 5 characters). OMG it seems so complex and daunting....
Is it worth pressing on with reading and learning...is there a better alternative? I am not sure I can delivery on the vast story that SK seems to be?
Happy with a Campaign, or smaller adventures that then lead to a campaign higher up. I may be wrong, but a few smaller adventures (maybe 2-3 sessions worth) might be a way forward?
if the campaign you're running seems too daunting for you or your players you could
1. i always love a good "find a few artifacts you need to kill the big bad". it's a classic a fun.
2. you could also focus on a small part of the campaign you're planing on running to narrow the scope.
3 alternatively you can also just lean away from world-building and focus on the action. maybe write up a few descriptions of the world and put them in a library if your players are curious about the world.
3.1 if if writing a history of the world is also overwhelming you can use AI. i know that its not original work but it saves so much time on nitty gritty stuff (i use AI to make menus for taverns and restaurants and shit like that).
i hope this helps!
