I am currently putting my players through a star wars type of DnD campaign and they're on a planet they know nothing about, they got there and everything was basically candy kingdom and adventure time type of npc's everywhere. They start eating some of the stuff around them and realize it's all actual candy and they can eat whatever they want. They're under an illusion and think it's all candy but really it's just life indigenous to the planet that have sweet enough meat, blood, and whatever else to pass and keep the illusion up, it also messes with all their other senses so candy is all they taste. I want them to realize it's an illusion on their own so I want to kind of mess with them until they realize they're in the illusion. I'm thinking somethings start tasting different or stuff starts to look a little different, what would I do?

Have some of the "candy" fight back or attempt to protect itself is the first thing that comes to my mind.
