So, in my campaign, the party will be heading to the Underdark, and I want them to encounter Gas Spore fungi. The problem is that if you fail their Con save, you're dead, and that would be very unsatisfying for the players. Only one member of the party will be able to cast resurrection spells, so if he dies, all of the poisoned characters die. Do you have any ideas for how to run them in a more fun/fair way?
The easy answer is to lengthen the time until the baby spores sprout and kill their host -- go the max 12 hours instead of 1d12, or the old 1d12 plus CON score from the 2014 version. That gives the divine casters in the party time to prepare lesser restoration or protection from poison, if necessary

Well, not having lesser restoration available for a party headed into the Underdark is generally a mistake, gas spore aren't the only thing that can be a problem that way. You might allow medicine instead.
The divine caster is a Divine Soul Sorcerer, so they can't long rest to get lesser restoration. The sorcerer might end up learning it, so maybe I'll just nudge him towards that a bit. Thank you for the help!
Yeah, make sure the party has a way to get rid of the Poisoned condition -- even if it's just a friendly deep gnome NPC or something -- before using a monster like that against them

run them like a they are only dangerous if the players are stupid so then your players wont accidentaly kill the healer and asuming they arent incredibly uninteligent or a barbarian party they should realise the rick and prioritise protecting the healer
