So I'm planning to run ToH for my group, but I've separate them into six duos. They will compete to see wich duo is the greatest, much glory in this...hahaha.
I was wondering, wich level do you guys judge as fair for them to begin it? I was thinking something like L16 or something like that, with 2 or 3 magical itens plus 10k gold.
Levels really don't matter too much since a lot of if is more investigative and puzzle based than combative. I believe Tales from the Yawning Portal placed it at a 15 and up, but i'd have to double check.
Honestly, if you're gonna make characters for this adventure and scrap them right after, just make them level 20. The entire basis of the module is the player skill that isn't represented on paper. If you plan to make a sport out of it, maybe make everyone a lvl 20 wizard (magic will help more than melee in this dungeon) and let them pick the spells they want, then they can be on the same playing field and test their mettle.

Thank you for your time!
I'm considering levels between 16 and 20; do you think 20 is too much?
