Sorry for not responding. I was nervous about looking at the responses but these are all really great ideas and I intend to use them.
So far, I've convinced my partner to give me one night a week to use her for practice sessions which has been really helpful... luckily for me the group I cancelled on were all friends so they understood and are going to wait until I feel ready to take the plunge.
I'm going to do a few more practice sessions and then set up a session zero as advised, it had been 5 years since my last attempt at running a game and let me tell you, I needed the practice, im so glad my partner is A) actually into the game and B) willing to do solo sessions and give me feedback, which is important because for some reason I dont take criticism coming from her so personally and instead act like a normal person about it and factor it into my play.
I was that DM that would over-explain everything.. I am an analyst IRL so fine details are basically my life, I was pretty ignorant to other people finding it to be too much and will instead wait for people to ask for more detail going forward so thats a good learning point.
Again, thanks for your support. This is a very heart warming community and im grateful for that.
I did a practice session with my wife when I was about to start dming and I had the same feedback; I was giving way too much detail when setting up the scene. It's an easy fix thankfully.
Keep us posted! It sounds like you have a really great group to enjoy the hobby with.

Sir, the possibility of successfully navigating an asteroid field is approximately 3,720 to 1!
I am a brand new DM so I can't really comment from that angle, but I can maybe help with the mental health side, as I have schizophrenia. My first DM session is coming up in about a week, and although I've prepared relentlessly, I'm still afraid. I have anxiety too, and for that I have medication, breathing, meditation, and visualization. Any one of these can help with anxiety. I have medication for the schizophrenia too, but if that rears it's ugly head, depending upon how severe the episode is, I will have to put the adventure on hold. I think acceptance is a big thing. In other words, by accepting, you open yourself up to explain your condition to everyone involved. This makes postponements a lot easier to explain. Best of luck :)

Thank you for sharing with us! It's always amazing when someone has the strength to seek help. The world needs more people as brave as you to help destigmatize mental health struggles. I'm glad you've put into practice some of the things mentioned here and are trending positive!
Hey anxiety sucks, I suffer from it as well, but in a different way, I get anxious after the session, skin goes prickly, a tingly sensation washes over me and an overall feeling of dread. One way I have managed it is to have a debrief afterwards which puts my mind at ease that everyone had a good time.
How can you apply this to you? Rather than thinking of running the game, why not have a catch up with your friends and talk about the game, general conversation with no commitment to running it, and see where that leads?
