Im not sure exactly how long it took but the party likes to get distracted with side questing. I was a player in several incomplete campaigns and figured if I was ever going to complete one I was just going to have to do it myself. Started with 4 players and by the end I only had two. Those two guys are solid and the most fun people I’ve ever played with.
I was surprised at how easy it is to DM once you know the basics and are using a Book. I’m 32 now, and should have been DMing much sooner. This topic is mostly social about Hoard and DMing experience in general. I’ve lived on the internet my whole life, so maybe I’ll fit in, we’ll see. Thanks for reading.
I am DMing the Hoard of the Dragon Queen campaign. I just made it so that when they find the three black eggs in the cave complex near greenest, one of them is only painted black and is actually gold. One of my characters wants to raise it. I have already found a way to tie it into the story. Any advice on raising the dragon wyrmling or what to do with the dragon Wyrmling?
I had this same issue and even changed the three eggs to one of each color. I used the link below as a frame work. I found it a bit overwhelming for lower level players so a dumbed it down a good bit concerning the time and DCs to hatch. I said forget the lore and allowed them to each pick any color they liked and raise them as good dragons.
I also allowed them to question around about places to hatch them and made a tricky NPC who sells pods to magically encase the eggs in a special environment. As to what to do with them once they are hatched? Idk... they are about to hatch. I assume they will just be pets for a while and once they are young dragons I’ll probably just follow the same rules for mounts that attack. Give them their own initiative, follow orders from the master, and cut them in the division of XP. Give the players the ability to take on some monsters/npcs they would not normally be able to deal with for less XP and deter them from “riding the dragon” through the whole campaign because nobody wants their XP cut.
So yeah... both (three sometimes) players will be rocking good dragons in opposing the cult. Should be fun for everyone and I’ll learn all sorts of creative ways to hender dragons in combat.
