I'm running CoS with a Vengeance Paladin who chose Haunted One BG. Their Harrowing Event is the one where they were possessed by a fiend. So they have a devil locked up inside them, sometimes talking to them, and I wanna use that for tension in the game. I like the idea of them rolling CHA save to keep their devil under control, but not sure what circumstances to do that, what sort of rewards or penalties for success or failure, etc. It's a great character trait, and I just wanna give it some mileage. Any suggestions?

How does a red dragon blow out the candles on its birthday cake?
First off, even though it makes sense, technically, i would advise against CHA saves, as those are the saves paladins are both proficient in and most likely to succeed on. They therefore won't be bothered by the devil all too often unless you add in something that happens on a successful save as well, which might make your PC feel cheated, somewhat.
Secondly, by what means has the devil crept into their heart? Devils are lawful evil, so the devil has most likely gotten in there contractually (whether it was your paladin who signed the contract is irrelevant), and I think their possession will manifest more as a series of rules. Do something, something bad (or maybe even good), happens to the paladin. Depends on their alignment, but say, if the devil creates a rule that says "If the paladin kills a non-evil creature, he or she gains temporary hit points/gold/some other incentive" that would very well lead the paladin on a path of evil.
You could do something like the devil is "activated" anytime they're in proximity with another fiend. And as far a CHA being a bad option, well that really depends on the DC you choose. Me, I think I'd go with something like DC12 + the CR of the fiend.
As for talking etc, hell yeah, go for it. If you wanted to get REAL crazy, you could write up a secondary character sheet based on an infernal paladin, and when the devil takes possession of them, all their stuff gets corrupted. Some players would be super cool with this, some would hate their character being torn away from them.
