My group is very low level, but i wanted to make a dungeon where the whole "gimmick" is that all the enemies are killed and all the traps are set off, so they walk through this creepy place, and then encounter what has been clearing the dungeon before them. I was searching through the monster manual but couldn't find a good monster that would make sense in universe to be clearing a dungeon. Does anyone know any monsters that would make sense doing this?
Well, how low of a level are they? Maybe you could end the dungeon with some bandit corpses (who cleared the dungeon before the party) and, if the party chooses to investigate them, they're met with a large Carrion Crawler? Maybe to make it more difficult, make it one size larger and give it some more hit dice? After all, if everything else is dead then that thing should be pretty well-fed and I'm sure it would be pretty keen on protecting its food supply.
They are very low level (around 2-5 between the table), but they like the story aspect of the game the most, so i wanted to introduce a cool meta-dungeon featuring this, I can try the Carrion Crawler idea, but i was looking more for a sort of humanoid who still has some human characteristics and motives (EX: how Nothic used to be wizards, but now they are drawn to magical items) Thanks for the help tho!
Oh, in that case, maybe a Drider or a pair of banderhobbs that were sent in there by a vengeful Hag. Or maybe a Lawmage or two that were corrupted by some sort of big bad evil force?

A rabid owlbear that was chasing a group of goblins. The fleeing goblins set off the traps leading the owlbear farther into the dungeon.
