I'm running the Dragon of Icespire Peak (Essentials Kit) and have a question about the Dragon Barrow adventure. I like the Invisible Stalker, but it makes more sense to me thematically for the final enemy to be an undead spirit as opposed to an elemental. Will I be upending any balance issues if I make that switch but keep the rest of the stat block intact?
I agree, it makes more sense to have it be an undead.
Anyway, switching to undead may make the encounter a little easier if you have a paladin or cleric in the party. But I wouldn't worry about it too much and just make the switch.

It went fine, but holy moly the paladin shredded it with two 2nd-level divine smites. 63 damage in one turn!
I let them. It tagged along through the adventure without doing much, except I did say it had a saddlebag with an additional clue to the original heroine’s identity since the party was curious. I think we forgot about it once they returned to town.
I let them keep the horse. He bonded with the wizard, who then levitated him out of the tomb. He's been riding along with the party and allowing for some fun antics here and there.
The dragon fight ends up being pretty fun, and it gives PCs who are new to DND a preview of what the big finale dragon fight will look like. Breath weapons are pretty brutal if you haven't seen them before.

I actually liked that the tomb guardian is not an undead creature.
I find that more fitting for a hero, who may not have liked the undead in her life.

What did y'all do with the undead horse that "bonds with any character who wants to ride it"?

When I ran this I used a lot of Bob World Builder's suggestions and it went really well (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mpRkmypRQH8)
