I just ran a first session in the forge of fury, and after my players pretty much rushed the front door of the fortress, the dragon born fighter failed her dexterity saving throw when the rope bridge was cut and fell into the river below.
The adventure says the player gets swept away by the river below(she did not take any damage as she had feather fall cast on her) but doesn't say where the player ends up. I am assuming the river in the next level of the dungeon is the same as the one at the bottom of the crease underneath the top bridge but not sure.
Any suggestions on how to proceed with this one? Where should I make the player end up?
There's a section in the adventure about what happens to players who fall in the river and don't get out in time.
Watery Peril.
At the west end of the cavern, the ceiling lowers to meet the surface of the river. Any creature swept past this point by the current is trapped in a long, airless underground channel and is likely to drown (see "suffocating" in chapter 8 of the Player's Handbook). In addition, the creature must make a successful DC 12 Strength saving throw each round or take 1d6 bludgeoning damage as it is battered by rocks. Even creatures that can breathe water aren't likely to survive for long. The stream runs underground for about 5 miles before emerging on a hillside to the west of the Stone Tooth.
So basically, if the player stays in the stream too long, they are likely to just die. However, since lots of the lower areas are crisscrossed by the stream it is likely that a nicer DM will allow the player to pop out in a lower area, maybe a little bruised and waterlogged, but otherwise still alive.
I jut had someone fall from the bridge. I the results to be adjudicated later. I need to decide how to handle it.
Opetion 1) death by damage and drowning, handled by the book. Fall damage, swim checks and suffocation.
Option 2) it’s possible the character survives the fall, they landed in water after all. Swim check to get to shore. This could leave the character in on of the three lower areas.
1. In the glitterhame behind the troglodyte lair. Doesn’t seem super likely with labout of the maps. The water here doesn’t seem deep enough to stop much fall damage.
2. In the roper canvern. This seems more plausible. The maps don’t really line up to make this happen and it seems the water is flowing the wrong direction also. This seems like a good place to start a survivor. They could walk out and up the stair, or into the roper and get eaten.
3. The duergar forge area. This seems like a plausible location to come out with the flow of water. Seems like it could 200’ below the bridge. Seems like you wouldn’t have fallen into a body of water so much a stream, there would probably more fall damage. If you didn’t manage to eat out of the water, either by climbing out or being pulled out by duergar you’d get washed down into night scales cave.
4. The Dark Lake. This seems very plausible. Might a very interesting place to end up. There could an interesting conversation with Night Scale before being eaten.
This cross section in validates my understanding of the maps. The forge is above the glitterhame rather than below it. Looks like the crevasse falls to the level of the dark lake. Which makes sense, it also makes this a logical place to end up. It doesn’t look like these ares actually connect looking at the map. They could with connect through some underground river.

Many thanks in advance for the advice,

Possibly, let her go to the next level - that would make it much easier for me.
Also read up on feather fall and actually she would have about 3 rounds to try and cling on to something I think.

How would you handle this?

This cross section doesn’t seem to recognize that water flows through the Forge room.
