I doubt about making my own monsters more than upgrading old monsters, the Inevitables and the Mohrg for example are very interesting monsters to add, specially with the Mechanus new background in the first case. And the Mohrgs are very interesting to put in play in high levels.
Here's what I do; Find something that is sort of close, and tweak it with a bit of what the creature had in a prior edition (keeping an eye out to change things to fit the 5th edition paradigm, i.e. not adding negative levels back into the game but instead copying the attack style of a wraith or wight, that sort of thing), and recalculate the CR according to the DMG.
AaronOfBarbaria actually that is close to my style, but I am interested in recover some criatures, the hekathonkires for example... I am going to use actual rules to make my own version of it, but I am unsure about make monsters than are going to be re-make any momment.
I don't think waiting for an official update of a creature is really worth it. If you go ahead and do the work for yourself, you have a version to use in the intervening time between now and whenever an official version happens to get released (which could be a long time, since there aren't any monster books already mentioned as coming soon, and the small helping of monsters in each adventure aren't likely to hit the exact ones any particular DM is wanting). And that makes the worst case scenario that you stop using your own version once an official one does come along. But there isn't any guarantee that the official version feels right to you, so even when one does come out you might still want to use your own, so why not get a head start on the process?
That said, I save myself from some of the potential for redundancy by not setting out to create conversions of all the currently un-converted monsters that I like from previous editions, but just converting the ones that I actually want to use in the next session or two.
Yes, you are right. Probable some of the last published Inevitables are fair use. And there are place to variants anyway (or time until they make up grade).
I will show some of my (more or less) original monsters and some personal takes soon (more or less soon).
Hi people,

What would you do?
Hombrewing and roleplaying a lot.

Thank you for your words of course.

If it helps, the thirdtofifth.tumblr is in the process of taking submissions and cranking out homebrew conversions of 3rd ed monsters.
