Is the character balanced on top of their weapon at this point or are they just floating there? If its the former, would that mean that the character cannot make weapon attacks while maintaining the posture from "Crane Stance"?

Good observation.
The intent is for the character to be balancing on top of their weapon. I will add something like "To perform normal weapon attacks before the end of your next turn, you will have return to the ground using part of your movement. Unarmed attacks do not need you to return to the ground before the end of the effect"

That seems like a good idea. The only caveat is that your unarmed attacks won't do you any good while in the "Crane Stance" because you are 10ft in the air (which puts all enemies out of the range of your unarmed strikes.
I feel like to solve this problem you need to not allow the character to make attacks at all (because they are focusing on balancing). Then, provide them with one (or both) of the following attack options while in Crane Stance.
Option A) You can leap and kick the weapon, causing it to spin in place. If you do so, you make a weapon attack against a creature within 5ft of the pole using the weapon you are balanced on. On a hit, you deal damage as normal and balance back on the weapon. If you miss, you return to the ground. If you use this attack as part of the Attack action, you cannot benefit from the Extra attack feature. [This is obviously a risky attack at reduced range, but it potentially allows you to make an attack while maintaining the posture].
Option B) You can leap down from your stance and make a weapon attack as you fall using the weapon you were balanced on. Choose a creature within range and make a weapon attack as normal. On a successful hit, your weapon deals its normal damage plus an additional die of damage matching that granted by you Martial Arts feature. If you make this attack as part of your Attack action, this only replaces one of the attacks. Regardless of if you hit or miss, your character is now on the ground.
Just some ideas off the top of my head. Change them as you like. Ignore them if you must.

Option B would technically be covered by Heaven's Fall, which is a separate feature.
I will think about option A, but even as itiis now, I think crane stance can still be useful to attack floating/low flying enemies that are juuust out of reach from the ground.

My question about the "Crane Stance" ability
Is the character balanced on top of their weapon at this point or are they just floating there? If its the former, would that mean that the character cannot make weapon attacks while maintaining the posture from "Crane Stance"?
