Without reflavoring or multiclassing you can't play an Arcane Knight character. That should say enough on its own. Yes we need an Arcane Knight type class because I want to play one and the lack of one in the core identity of the game invariably creates problems even though you can find ways around it or just play a wizard who takes armor and weapon feats.
When you say you want to be a Paladin no one has any problem with what that means. Why can't we have an Arcane magic version? Why can't I be a wizard warrior who studies magic and the blade? Or a Sorcerer variant with natural magic and martial training? I want to blend the two together, not be some 9/1 or 3/7 build.
It’s a nice to have but not a real need. You already have the hexblade, the armorer artificer and a reskinned ranger to play that role so it’s not a desperate need but it is something that might be nice to have.

Hexblade is kind of dead in 2024, but it never fulfilled the Arcane Warrior fantasy for me anyway. Armorer Artificer lacks the weapon proficiencies, and Weapon Smith waste features on a pet (which is fine if you weren’t trying to fulfill the Mage Knight archetype). Reskinning a Ranger lacks many of the Arcane spells many would want on the build. At this point I don’t see WoTC making a class to scratch this itch, but there are 3rd party classes and my own homebrew that handles it well for me. Also it isn’t too bad to have to multi class if your game is going to last until at least 8th - 10th level.

Yeah, It used to be called a dusk knight and it is definatly missing.
I'm a bit late to the party but I would to input my opinion on the "Gish's"
The way I see it, there three main levels of "gish" for spells words.
High
Medium
Low
These refer to the amount of magic the build uses.
High would be things like the blade singers, lore bards, warlock's (other then like hexblade)
Medium would be the middle of the road, combining blade and spell skillfully. These would be the Valor bard, lore bard, or artificer
Low would be the warriors who thought magic would help, those being the Eldritch Knight, Arcane Archer, and Barbarian's
I didn't cover everything thing but that's my two sense
