I was working on creating a race for my homebrew setting and after a couple of botched attempts while learning the ins and outs of the homebrew creator here, I realised that I didn't need to use subraces at all. I could create a base race and within that base race, create subracial choices that would appear in the character creator. Functionally, it works exactly the same as would a subrace except for the fact that it's only considered one race in the builder (so doesn't need the new nested sorting).
So aside from convention, there's simply no need for subraces as a separate category on DDB. Any race currently with subraces, could be remade this way and, IMO, it would be superior to how it's currently arranged. You could even do it with all the tiefling variants since Charisma +2 is universal and just take out the variable +1 from the base race and build all the variants as choices within the race that you make at character creation.
Thoughts?

Its there for people who want distinct subraces? Different subraces implies different cultures and histories in addition to the mechanics.
Furthermore, actually removing subraces as an option is going to require far more coding that just a note that clarifies that you don't need to use subraces. More work for less benefit.

Again, you can do all that without using the subrace creator. I know, I've done it. Entire subracial entries within the race. Choose which 'subrace' you want in character creation after choosing the base race. It's much neater and more intuitive.
