So my DM is wonderful and I love how he does things. Sometimes, he focuses too much on the lore of Forgotten Realms, and not so much at 5e game mechanics.
Yesterday we found a chest in a pretty damn hard encounter and there were 4 magics items in the chest.
Gray Bag of Tricks - Same as in 5e. Awesome magic item that I am excited to use.
Wand of Darkness - Like the Wand of Web, but it's Darkness. I feel that this is way crazier than Web though, he calls it an Uncommon, but I would think it's Rare.
Gauntlets of Ogre Power - With the added effects of not being affected by extreme weather, which is cool but never comes up.
And finally the main reason why I posted this....
Broach of Stonebones - This is basically the Broach of Shielding, but instead of a resistance to Force damage and an immunity to Magic Missile, it's Bludgeoning Damage... Broach of Stonebones gives the wearer immunity to non-magical bludgeoning damage and resistance to magical bludgeoning. bludgeoning is the 3rd most common damage type after Piercing and Slashing. He says it's only an Uncommon, but I am saying it's basically a Very Rare, if not Legendary. Interestingly enough, Stonebones is the patron god of Stone Giants, so that's a fun little coincidence.
Immunity to bludgeoning damage is definitely a major boon. I'd put it at very rare. Is there any reason that you'd need to know its rarity?

Imma tell you that the rarity iis whatever the DM says it is. Because it is the Dm's world -- even if it is a published world. the moment they opened it up and started a game, it splits off from the formal whatever and becomes its own thing.
Now, the DM may have a made a mistake -- it happens. If so, *make hay while the making is good*.
THey handed out one of the greatest, niftiest things ever, and you want to argue about rarity? Jumbo the Giant can walk up with a Mace of Instant Death and crit you for no damage, and you want to talk about how much you can sell it for? (Since yo mention mechanics, that's the only player side one rarity is useful for).
Ok, Ok. Yes, I would set rarity of such a thing very high. Immunity to a particular damage type would be an artifact level thing in my game. It is the kind of thing that wouldn't be found until at least 15th level. To give you an idea of what I am saying, I have: Everyday, Uncommon, Rare, Very Rare, Legendary, Mythical, Artifact/Relic. Those are my levels of rarity (they actually read more like Common, Worldly, Dimensional, Planar, Legendary, Mythical, Artifact/Relic).

I would say that if the DM hands out something that good and say's it's Uncommon, then it's Uncommon.
I'd say just enjoy using it, and see whether the DM is content with the results. They might find, as you are guessing, that it is more powerful than that. Often homebrewing takes some serious bumps before you find the right measure of it!
I'm friends with the DM, so arguing over the rarity is more of a friendly spat that is a part of an ongoing joke. He approaches Magic Item creation from the perspective of if he himself was creating a magic item in the Forgotten Realms. His magic items have quirks/additional abilities for that reason. Some suck, some are meh and others are good.
The joke is that his magic items are all over the place, like the Sword of Lethargy which is a very rare magic item, a +1 Sword, but causes you to need a 10 hour rest... There is a prophecy to it though. And now Broach of Stonebones which some people would rank as Very Rare or Legendary. His games are tough, as due to Lore reasons, Critical Failures happen on Nat 1's and 2's. Also there is no revival.... But at least there are Legendary grade items that he ranks as Uncommon lol!

The Wand of Darkness would be Uncommon rarity. Darkness is a 2nd level spell. Generally the max spell level for Uncommon is 3rd level spells.
