After looking through the forums, I have found that it seems for 6 years this has been a request. DnD Beyond is supposed to be the default and best tool to use for online tracking and building, so why can't this be fixed here. I really can't believe it would take much to simply create an ammunition categories for the base weapon type and associate that ammunition type to the base weapon type which uses it. In theory you should not be able to have access to use a weapon if you don't have the ammunition for it.
Bolt --> Crossbow, Heavy Crossbow, Hand Crossbow, etc... | Arrow --> Longbow, Shortbow, etc... | Bullets --> Gun Type Weapons
Doing this would allow for 3 things to happen
1- Homebrew could FINALLY create ammunition after MANY years of this being a problem
2- Equipping the correct ammunition (with it's bonuses) could be included in the weapon attack calculation for the rolls using the tool directly.
3- Create a proper limitation on the ability to use an item based on the availability of ammunition... you could even debit one of them when a roll is done using the click to roll method, similar to how spell slots should work.
The Homebrew tools and the toolset should be complete, and this feels like a massive oversight. Come on DnD Beyond, I pay to use your features, and we can all be patient, but this feels like low hanging fruit which can easily be solved. I'm sure your community of Homebrewers would agree that this needs to be fixed...
