Hi, I am Shavarathspawn/Bartholomew456, a budding DM in this forum.
I enjoy making homebrewed magic items and monsters as well as spells, subclasses, and subraces. I just figured I might as well just make a forum threa where I take ideas and turn them into actual 5e items/races/classes. If you have an idea, post it here, but follow these guidelines -
1. Not too vague. I don't know what you want.
2. Appropriate and not insulting/demeaning/offensive in any way.
3. (Mostly) original.
4. Detailed, but not detailed to the point it is easier for you to make it yourself.
You don't have to pay - this is free. Just hit me with an idea and I'll make it in Homebrewery and post it here. (No wonder nobody was posting. Welp)
No, I got what you're saying, I just was saying that transcribing into a clean format is the thing I actually need.
Anyway, to just throw some ideas out there, I have some homebrew that you might enjoy/tweak.
Dueling Spear/Dueling Glaive/Naginata (name up to you) 1d6, comes in slashing or piercing, Reach, Finesse. It's a reach weapon that small people can use, and rogues can use. I'd be willing to let it be versatile, doing 1d8 in both hands, and only be Reach when used 2 handed, but that reaches outside the boundaries of 5e weapon design a bit too much for a simple addition.
Same stats can also work as a spiked chain, btw. If used 1 handed, it is only 1d4 damage, instead of 1d6.
I also have some races that I would love to see put into the homebrewery and made into nice pdfs. I'd credit you for formatting if I shared them anywhere.
Fighting Styles:
Knife Fighter: While wielding only daggers, add 10ft to the short and long range of the daggers, and you can always draw a dagger as part of the action used to attack with it, even if you've already done so this turn.
Soft Style: WHen an attack against you misses, and you have at least one hand free, you can make an unarmed attack of opportunity against the creature that missed you. If it is no greater than 1 size category larger than you, and your attack succeeds, you switch places with it, and it falls prone if it moved 10ft or more before attacking. You gain a +2 bonus to damage on attacks of opportunity that deal damage.
Phlalanx Piker: When you make a melee attack with reach, and an ally stands between you and your target, you gain +1 to the Attack. You can also use a Reaction to interfere with attacks against an ally within 5ft of you, from an enemy within your reach. You make an attack roll, and instead of dealing damage, the target has Disadvantage on the attack that triggered your Reaction.
I'd also love to see some more weapon mastery feats, for things like unarmed fighting, and for the dueling fighting style, with a free hand and a 1hander.
Maybe also some feats and fighting styles that give a splash of gish?
Mage Fighting is closer to a feat than a fighting style, in power level. What about "when you use an Action to make a spell attack, you can use your bonus action to make a melee weapon attack with a one handed weapon, an unarmed strike, or a versatile weapon you are wielding with one hand." Im not sure how to word it so that it's balanced even if you are weilding a two-hander, which is why it's restricted. Just a suggestion.
Instead of doing half damage to trigger an effect, why not do the added effect as a bonus action? More in line with how 5e tends to work, and it feels more like the sort of thing a fighting style does.
Soft Style: I would change the last part to just allowing a Dex save. Who is, or isn't, a martial artist, is too nebulous.
Armor Penetrating is a bit too much. Advantage on all attacks against heavily armored foes is too much, by itself, for a fighting style. I'd say either +1 to atk, or +2 to damage.
Unarmed Brawler is close. The last line is unnecessary, though. Everyone can make opportunity attacks with an unarmed strike, already. It just does 1+ability mod damage. I'd consider modeling it more closely after the Monk's Martial Arts feature in wording.
Knife Fighter. I'm not sure about adding 1d6 damage to all attacks with a weapon, at no cost, with no need to have advantage (like normal sneak attack). I know daggers do small damage, but I don't see why +2 damage with daggers or knives wouldn't work? or +1d4 damage, even, since the average result is about the same as +2.
Sweet! The first few are still, I think, too heavy in benefits for a fighting style, though. I'd say pair that down, and give them companion feats that boost the fighting style, just like some of the main fighting styles have.
Knife Fighting, for instance, is fine if you drop the sneak attack, and package that in a Dagger Master feat. Remember that a knife fighter can also have second dagger in their offhand. As worded now, the style would let them attack with 1 dagger for (+1atk) 1d4+dex+1d6, then bonus action attack with a second dagger for (+1atk) 1d4 damage, and either attack can be at dagger range+10ft.
Two Weapon Fighting just lets you add your stat mod to the second attack. most of them give a small damage or attack bonus.
I think a lot of these could probably be made into a combination of a fighting style and a feat.
Knife Fighter could just be +1 and +10ft range, with a feat that
lets you draw daggers as part of your attack no matter how many attacks you make. (normally, only the first time can be part of the same action)
Hide daggers on your person as part of another action, with advantage on the ability check
Make an attack with a dagger as a reaction when you fail an Intimidate, Deception, Slieght of Hand, or Stealth check, with advantage on the attack.
Treat a dagger in your main hand as a 1d6 weapon.
As an example.
A Soft Style feat might
Let you make an Opportunity attack against an opponent that misses you with an attack while within 5 feat of you
Let you move them 10ft before they fall prone, if they moved in the same turn in which they attacked you
If any forced movement you impose on a creature would throw them into another creature, that creature takes 1d10 bludgeoning damage, and must make a dex save or be knocked prone.
When an effect would knock you prone, you can make a DC 10 Dex check. If you succeed, you can move 10ft in any direction instead of falling prone.
Mage Fighting should probably be reworked. I forgot about Eldritch Knights, and War Magic, which is a level 7 ability that does the same thing, but only if you cast a cantrip.
What if, instead, Mage Fighting lets you add a magical damage type to your attacks, and you can spend a bonus action when you attack with a melee weapon to deal 1d4 of that damage type to an enemy within 15ft? This is balanced bc it's equivelent to the damage bonus from Dueling, but has to be used on a second target, and the elemental damage is a situational benefit. Then the feat needs to be useful for all sorts of gish characters, so...
1/turn, when you deal elemental, poison, necrotic, radiant, or force damage with a melee weapon attack, you can choose to deal 1d6 extra damage of that type to the target.
When you use the Mage Fighting fighting style to deal damage to a secondary target, you may add your spellcasting modifier to the damage dealt.
1/short rest, you can make a weapon attack as a bonus action after you use your action to cast any spell that you can cast.
You gain +1 to attack when casting a spell that requires a weapon attack, rather than a spell attack.
Again, I like the work you're doing, it's just a bit too much for a fighting style, in comparison to the others.

Interesting idea.
I'd be willing to pay someone good at formatting to make my homebrew look good, but I'm generally just going to use my own in my actual games.
still, I'll be keeping an eye on this thread, for sure.

I don't suppose you'd be willing to write up the feats I suggested, as well? If you're short of time I will have a go at writing them out in word.

Hey! You think you could write up for me a balanced race? need it for an adventure:
Skysongs: look like elves, but with feathered wings, cat eyes, and snake fangs. They love music in all forms.
DM, player, and worshipper of dragons. Hi!
Serifey Maladaela, dragonborn monk-Beyond This Earthly Realm "My name means angel of vengeance in Draconic. It describes me well."
Weird, but I can try to make them and optimize them for bards. Still, sounds like an odd idea.
