I've loved Genasi since I was a little girl watching my parents play Neverwinter Nights, (My first introduction to the world of D&D), and even play an Earth Genasi Barbarian in a campaign. So, of course, when I started actually playing, I read up on Genasi Lore, and learned about the Para and Quasi genasi from earlier versions that have yet to come to 5e. Still, not official content, so usually, not allowed in the 5e games I play...so I didn't think too hard on it at the time...however, I, of course, got the stupid idea last night that a 5e version of an Ooze Genasi would essentially allow me to make and play a slime girl in D&D. I was so amused, I wound up homebrewing a 5e version of Ooze Genasi, (Which should be over here) and was so proud of it, I had to share! I'm still pretty proud of it, of course, but would be happy to hear any criticism or critique that others are willing to give, as well as what changes others would like to see.
I made a list of ideas of possible cosmetic/gameplay changes that may enhance, over complicate, or otherwise worsen the subrace...feel free to let me know which sound interesting, or which sound just plain stupid. XD
Purely Cosmetic Changes:
Change the description slightly, so that while Ooze Genasi never have visible organs, they may or may not have visible skeletons, allowing for more creepy, or creepily-cute, character appearances.
Make it so that Ooze Genasi can be either more liquid-like and drippy in form, or more like Sea Slugs...able to stretch and squish as they feel necessary, and leaving a bit of moisture behind/being coated in moisture constantly like a Water Genasi, but otherwise maintaining the same overall shape more consistently then those who are more fluid in form.
In keeping with the "Sea Slug" line of thought, (and in a simular vein to how Water Genasi can have fins, gils, or other aquatic parts), make it not uncommon for Ooze Genasi to carry traits of gelatinous aquatic creatures...this usually taking the form of Squishy, Sea-slug-esq antennae, or a sea slug's flower-like "gils" growing in a single, or even multiple locations on the body, Or Cerata in place of hair, (being a combination of Earth Genasi having Crystals for hair, and the Water Genasi having aquatic traits) but also occasionally branching out into traits resembling that of Jellyfish, Sea Cucumbers, and other such creatures.
Gameplay/Stat Changes:
Change the ability to choose between Strength and Wisdom to getting +1 to each, but in turn taking a -1 to Intelligence.
Giving Ooze Genasi the ability to breathe underwater, but still lacking the ability to swim, as their Earth Genasi heritage makes them too heavy to be able to do so properly.
Thank you very much for giving any time you are willing to spend reading, and maybe even giving your opinions on my nonsense! If all goes well, I may even Homebrew other Para/Quasi Genasi in the future, and even give the main 4 a bit more touching up...lord knows 5e Genasi need love! (Especially Earth Genasi...my campaign with mine even has homebrewed rules we use to explain Genasi's having the innate ability to cast "Pass without a trace" I would love to share.)
Update;
Here's the newer version, now with a WIP peice of art!
(Yes, they're all ladies, and I p much used the same base doodle/pose I made for all of them since I, as a girl, typically only play female characters, and also have been focusing on colors etc to show just how many options are available.)
Replying to this because I just updated the main post!
Now with art!
My gaming groups have shown interest in these guys, but I could still use more feedback/criticism...even if it's only about a spelling error...so feel free to reply with your thoughts if you are so inclined!^^
