I made a campaign that was inspired by pokemon a little. The players tame monsters along the way to stop (insert BBEG here). The players are special individuals known as draconisists who can tame monsters to fight alongside them. Here are the rules I made for it: Creatures you tame either learn common or understand common. They forge a psychic link with you and you and the creature can telepathically communicate from anywhere as long as there is no more than 3 feet of object (for example walls) between you and the creature and you are both on the same plane of existence.
Specific creature types of creatures cannot be tamed unless a specific taming stone is used (for example a demon cannot be tamed unless a fiend taming stone or similar taming stone is used).
You and the creature you have out act on the same turn. Only one of you may do things, however (for example you and your wyvern can move on the same turn but only you or your wyvern can take any actions or bonus actions). If a tamed creature is reduced to 0 hp, they roll death saves just as a player would.
You have 6 monster slots. Tiny creatures take up 1/4 slot, small creatures take up 1/2 slot, medium creatures take up 1 slot, large creatures take up 2 slots, huge creatures take up 3 slots, and gargantuan and larger creatures take up 4 slots.
You may spend 2 rounds recalling a creature and sending out a new one. While recalling a creature, it takes your concentration. This concentration is not broken by damage. While recalling a creature, you cannot move. The creature being recalled in immune to all damage except psychic.
All players start out with a starting monster that is not a fiend celestial construct elemental aberration or legendary creature. If the creature is not legendary but will grow into one, they cannot be selected (for example a young dragon is not legendary but an adult is, so it cannot be selected). The creature's challenge rating cannot exceed your character level.
To tame a monster, you may use a taming stone. You target one creature within 100 feet of you that you can see that meets the taming stone's restriction. You roll a percentile vs the creature's tc (Taming Challenge). You add half of your animal handling bonus to the roll. If you meet the creature's tc or higher, you tame the creature. After the stone is used, it loses its magic and cannot be used again.
