Hey everyone, I have a question that I can't seem to find an existing answer for. I am creating a homebrew class based on the Way of the Kensei and adding spellcasting to it. Now I've figured out how to add spellcasting as a general feature but what I'm trying to do is limit the spells that can be choosen from. I am using the Eldritch Knight spellcasting as a guide for my homebrew, but instead of giving the player full access to the wizard spell list I only want to give access to a select amount of spells per spell level. For example instead of the full wizard list for level one spells I only want the player to have access to Charm Person, Disguise Self, Expeditious Retreat, Jump, Longstrider, Mage Armor, Magic Missile, Shield, Silent Image, Sleep, Thunderwave, and Witch Bolt. But I can't seem to figure out how to do this. I've tried adding it under the spells section of the created subclass feature for spell casting but that just allows the player to pick a spell in much the same way that it works for the arcane initiate feat, and in order for that to work I would have to manually add in all the requesite spell slots and then recreate the feature everytime a new spell slot was earned. I'm hoping that there is a way that I can just limit the spells through the spellcasting feature. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
After some further investigation, I managed to find the answer to this. I'm posting again so that if anyone else runs into this issue they can find the answer too. Instead of selecting a spell list in the basic information section of the subclass creator, you need to go down to the additional spells box and manually add in every spell you want without selecting a spell list. when you then use the character creator in dnd beyond you will then only see the spells that you have put in the additional spells box. This will then allow you to in essence create a custom spell list for your subclass that your players can choose from.
