I'm working on populating a city for my homebrew world that draws inspiration from numerous high magic settings such as the city of Sharn from Ebberon. My current stumbling block is creating an immersive mercantile/craftsmen quarter. I would like to populate it with magewrights ( https://www.dndbeyond.com/monsters/magewright ) and people wielding magical tools that duplicate the abilities of those exceptional individuals.
I was wondering if anyone here had created any variant magewrights or had any ideas for ones that I could create. Even just ideas for trades that could be amplified with magic.
For example, I have an NPC in mind who is a gem cutter. He specializes in preparing gemstones for both jewelry and as components for magic, using jeweler's tools as a type of arcane focus, similar to an artificer. He also has access to a custom spell or two, but that's another conversation.
