Since I think it'll probably take a while before Homebrew functionality is introduced to D&D Beyond, I was wondering if anybody could help me out with making a unique homebrew character I've got from a screenplay I'm writing.
I've got a character profile made if people wanna see it but I don't think I can upload it here so I might have to DM it to people since its just a simple Microsoft Word docx file (probably can convert it to a pdf too if needed), from what I've been told his abilities are similar to a Paladin or Warforged Paladin so on paper it should be possible to make, its just since I'm new to DnD I don't really know how to set it up mechanically.
Is there any good place to upload this to show people? For like people who are really experienced with making homebrew characters?
If there's any questions about specific character details please feel free to ask. But most of everything SHOULD be covered here in the Character Profile since this is the kind of thing used on Screenplays (For Films, TV & etc) so it covers most of the bases & gives you a good idea of what the character is supposed to be like & detail his unique ability.
Interesting character concept, could be really fun to play, I have a suggestion for you.
Other than homebrewing there is always the option of re-skinning existing abilities to more suit your narrative. A great example if you haven't seen it, is Ashley Johnson's character of Dagny in the Nerdist series 'Force Grey'. In this all of her cleric abilities have been re-skinned to be mechanical, the best example is the spell 'Hold Person' is a bola that she can fire from her flail.
I think that Adl could definitely fit into either a re-skinned paladin or a re-skinned cleric. A good place to start may be the cleric though as there is a lot of versatility, don't forget as well that there is the unearthed arcana such as the 'Forge Domain' cleric.

Yeah thats the general feed back I seem to get so far which is promising, the only thing is... I've never LITERALLY played a game of DnD my entire life, I MIGHT be trying out a friend's homebrew Drow campaign in April (provided the Vampire Drow I made gets the approval) but yeah honestly on paper the character SHOULD work..
The trick is getting some of this stuff to work with DM's, since I won't lie during my inquires there have been some people who have been vocal about disliking the character concept or that it "goes against the spirit of DnD"...
But anyways thats all well & good which gives me some GREATLY needed confidence in this but there's still some stuff I'm not sure how to deal with.
Take for example the part of where, essentially if Adl accidentally or even intentionally hurt an innocent from say a bullet. The "force" of divine judgment could turn the bullet into the consistency silly putty if the situation was dire enough, or just simply have the gun jam which would be more likely. Or on the flip side, lets say he doesn't want to hurt someone who has a bad streak in them & they're trying to do something bad.. he won't have a choice in the matter & might even have to kill them.
That I'm not sure how to write in cause most skills & stuff seem kinda self explanatory. I kinda wish I could really have just... I dunno there's no way this is gonna happen considering all the set backs I've had, somebody sit down with me & actually write up a sheet & see how it looks on paper with stats.
Plus then there's stuff like the myriad of powers (Think Megaman of Megaman fame, Dante of Devil May Cry & etc) which I'd have to incorporate some how, the stats & trying to balance them so they're not OP which I'm sure in SOMEWAY they're going to be, my first D&D character sheet (not profile) was a complete mess!
I really hope the D&D character builder gets online soon, cause even though I've got like some work flow charts & etc. It'd be nice to have it set up like... for those who played Arkham Horror, Stranger Eons or Hero Lab (which even that is pretty cumbersome, user-unfriendly & pricy) which can calculate this stuff.
If you like, i'm happy to back and forth pms on here to help as much as I can.
I've been dm-ing a while and can provide as much insight as I can. I think the main issues people would identify with Adl is that he's already very powerful. Which can be a little bit frustrating in say a 1st level campaign. Feel free to pm me and we can discuss. :)
Homebrew.naturalcrit.com is a great place to keep ideas as they're styled in the 5e format, so it looks and feels legit. I'd suggested putting ideas there because you get so much more pumped about them when they look all fancy, takes a lil bit of html coding but once you get your head around that it's no problem

Just checked it out, not a bad little site but how do you exactly make a character sheet? I can see the tables but I don't see anything that looks like the other basic DnD sheets. I don't suppose you have an example of something you've made to give me an idea of what it should look like using this?

Hope it works as an example. You can also try and look at the PHB for more formatting examples.
