I'm making a homebrew action for combat. I can't come up with a name though, and I'm not sure if it's broken or not.
Here it is: As an action, you can add double your dexterity modifier and your proficiency bonus to your initiative roll. This is mostly for allowing characters to take turns first in drawn-out combat.

Homebrew, homebrew, homebrew. I DM homebrew. I homebrew homebrew. My homebrew brews homebrew. I brewed by home. My home brews homebrewed homebrew, homebrewing homebrew that homebrews homebrewing homebrew.
Double the dexterity seems OP but i don't think it is, You are also using your proficiency bonus in initiative rolls even more so, If for the fact that this isn't the alert feat I would have ruled this out. but doubling it is seems to lean on your score, unless you real intend for it to be only that way.
This is an action now that's interesting, usually these are feats and not actions though there are some feats that can grant an action if possibly required the feat, if this is an action that is useable from a feat it would have been fine, But if it is an action that is not a feat and is available for everyone in the campaign then oh boy that's a big no no.
But anyways lets analyze this a bit further.
Obviously this action requires your DEX score meaning the modifier is either 1 - 5, then if you doubled that it either becomes 5 - 10 + then your proficiency bonus depends on what class you choose either 1 & 2 - 6, which is usually the proficiency bonus. lets say your DEX score is 16 meaning your DEX modifier is +3 then double that it becomes a 6, then adding your proficiency bonus lets say its 2 meaning its 6+2 8, Ps. your dex modifier is already your initiative score. so in total you get a less flavored alert action but it has higher chances of higher initiative.
Usually initiatives stay as it is so that characters and monsters would be set, if there was an action like this, surely everyone would use it. that's it.
