Hey, I've been trying to make a Doomguy-inspired barbarian subclass, but can't think of a balanced way to implement the finishers we see in the modern Doom games. I think what makes it so hard is the lack of "finishing moves" in D&D, so there's no framework I can base this on.
- A special attack that is a surefire deathblow, but only usable when the enemy is close to death sounds good, but the barbarian wouldn't know when that is, as he doesn't have access to the creature's HP value, so he couldn't plan ahead;
- A bonus action Unarmed Strike that increases in damage the less health the enemy has does sound a bit more viable, but it requires too much micromanagement and there's also no garantee that it will be the attack the barbarian finishes his enemy off with (he might kill the enemy with one of his normal attacks by accident before punching)
- Giving all of his attacks the property "If doubling the damage of this attack would kill the target, double it" sounds like a pretty good option to me, but it's probably be too strong, epecially for the class famous for carrying two-handed weapons and that can Recklessly Attack...
I've played around with a similar idea, tho to be fair, even fitting the doomguy in one class is hard, yes he is raging (like a barb) but barb tends not to wear armor when the doomguy armor is quite the important part of the character too.
here is the few things i came up with if that might help you (it was intended for fighter):
3rd You’re swifter than most fighter, and able to catch foe trying to outrun you, you're movement speed increase by 10ft. Additionally, you gain profiency in the Charisma(Intimidation) skill. (its so important to always move around in doom, i thought it had to be in the subclass
15th When you score a critical hit with a weapon attack, you gain a bonus to that weapon’s damage roll equal to your level in this class. (could be your finisher move)
18th second wind as a free action no using it when crit or killing (killing demon with finisher do grant health in game)

What do you guys think? Any ideas?
