" Our priest is right. Apparently someone entered this place without knocking the main gates. " Lucy makes a magical sign and summons the ghostly hand beside her. " Everyone, take cover. I will open the hidden door and see what is behind it. "
The arcane hand swings the hidden door easily away from you, revealing a staircase immediately on the other side. Standing at the bottom you can see that the staircase is roughly 25ft long, leading to a large stone door with a dwarf's face carved into it.
@Bree:
With your Detect Magic spell still active, you notice a field of magical energy surrounding the stairs around halfway up, like a shimmering ribbon stuck to the floor, walls and ceiling. It has the transparent colouring of Illusion magic
Bree looks up the stairs shakes her head a little and then focusses her vision on somewhere around halfway up the stairs. "Uh guys... I see magic there. It looks like some illusory magic, so I wouldn't expect it to be harmful directly, but maybe something nasty is hidden from view?" She points where the traces of magic are along the stairs.
Since Bree isn't as learned on illusory magic a Arcana check to see if she would have the same suspicion as I have for which spell it could be 😬 Arcana 21
Edit: I guess she does
Bree thinks some more "I've also heard of this spell once where you can program a magical mouth to recite a message you have spoken at the same volume as you program it with... Could be used as some kind of alarm if you program it loud enough. Maybe we aren't alone down here... It doesn't fade until triggered though, so it might also be set centuries ago.."
Sila peers up the stairs looking suspiciously at the area mentioned by Bree concentrating on seeing what is really there after hearing Illusionary magic.
Rolling intelligence with no bonus to disbelieve what she sees. If it's of any assistance she can cast Minor Illusions as part of her monk specialty if this gives her any bonus' to disbelieve? I don't think so but worth an ask. Intelligence 9

" A staircase and illusion spell… one of my favorite combinations. " Lucy narrows her eyes and tilts her dead as if trying to see through the Illusion. " But that's when I use them for enemies though." TheElf wizard picks up a pebble. She throws it to the staircase and sees how it will react.
Action: Arcana Check to determine the nature of the spell:11
Lucy's pebble flies up the staircase, through the field and clatters on a step about three-quarters of the way up; nothing happens.
Only Bree can see the magical field in place, using her Detect Magic spell. Based on Bree's description (and Bree's excellent Arcana roll), the group determine that the field will trigger an alarm if a creature of sufficient size passes through. It can be dispelled with an appropriate spell, or possibly disrupted with the correct counter-incantation, just long enough for someone to pass through.
Unless someone casts an appropriate dispelling spell or ability, one can try to make an Arcana check as they (or another) passes through; a high enough roll will allow that one character to pass through.
Multiple characters can try to pass through the field, but an Arcana check must be made with each attempt.

If the alarm detail is shared with her...Sila speaks up at this discussion. "I can silence the area for 10 minutes, do you know how long the alarm may last? There is a possibility the first triggering of the alarm with cause them to cancel out each other so I could not guarantee it would work, but it seems worth a try?"
arcana check 3 to see if she would be familiar with the spell Bree describes to know this answer herself.
After some discussion regarding the alarm and her silence , Sila adds, "Should we try the Silence ? We could all move quickly through and with my concentration, I should be able to keep it active until everyone's through. Unless it can trigger something else?"
@DM Took some liberty assuming 'discussion' in relation to arcane rolls and your pooled knowledge post if ok.
Lucy considers Sila's plan and answers. " I can use Alarm Spell too. Never thought if the Silence spell can affect it. But it is worth trying. And just in case…" The wizard uses Mage Hand to grasp her familiar. The owl protests but Lucy ignores her." Lets hide somewhere and throw Artemis to activate the Alarm. Then the one who set the spell would not find us while we would have enough time for a surprise attack."
Sila nods, "Yes, I think Artemis would be a good test if she's willing. It would also reveal whether it will resound again if she passes through twice or if the silence will keep the alarm quiet. Ready when you are. I just need to concentrate to keep it active."
Garavant knows little of spells and magic tricks (other than the one thing his mentor taught him with the booming blade) and has never been the best at figuring out solutions to complex problems such as this one.
He gets a little more perplexed when Lucy talks about throwing the owl. "Um, can't you just tell the bird to fly through the area? It seems to do what you tell it, right?"
At any rate, when the spells and tests are done, Garavant gets ready to move quickly and dart through the silenced area.
" No worries. She will do anything if I give her proper treats.Right, Artemis? " Artemis screeches in anger. Lucy silences the familiar by stuffing a dried fish in her mouth. " Get ready, Sila. Cast Silence, then I will throw Artemis into the staircase! "
@Garavant
" There are two reasons why I will throw my owl. First, by throwing Artemis, I can give her more velocity, so that she won't be caught by hidden enemies or traps. Second, this way is much more fun than just ordering the owl to scout the place! "

Action: Using Mage Hand to open the secret door.
Gruenic gets ready to follow Lucy’s lead and head through the discovered secret door.
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Garavant shares what he has learned, then stands back, crossbow in hand, as Lucy opens the secret door.
Sila will press her back against the nearby wall about 3' away from the door as Lucy opens it, weapons ready.
Bree also stands at the ready preparing a mind sliver for if anything starts harming her friends.

Does Bree see any way to circumvent the spell?

Sila can do this using 2 Ki and concentrating.
Gruenic considers what Bree is saying and looks down the hall, tries to ascertain what is happening.

He's not too sure about what is happening, so he backs up and waits to hear about what the others think they should do.
A wizard is never late, nor is he early, he arrives precisely when he means to.
Pooling your arcane knowledge you know that the alarm spell in question can be programmed to emit its recorded sound for up to ten minutes.
