While waiting for the others Sir Evendur then rides over to Kendes. "Kendes Jevolath, follower of the loyal fury, you showed great courage and bravery facing that half-dragon last night. Know that I will always be there for my loyal and brave companions. As will mighty Torm, brave Kendes. And you should not apologize for questioning my decisions, I would greatly appreciate if you continued to speak your mind, I am sure it will help us make better decisions in the time to come."
When Xymor returns Valas thanks him for his efforts and offers to keep him around to spend some time together or send him back to his pocket dimension. The owl agrees to the former, and the two set about walking around town to see the aftermath of the battle. Valas is friendly and kind to any who approach him, but does not actively seek out anyone in particular. There is little he can do for these people at the moment, whether it be gold and supplies to rebuild, provisions from House Tethras which his father would surely refuse to send, or even his magic, which would do little good beyond here. Valas has spent little time outside of his elven realm until recently, so even simply observing another town of humans and others is interesting to him.
Valas updates the party and Governor Nighthill with Xymor's report and thanks the Governor for the bow and arrows. He accepts the offer of 250g to investigate further as he knows he will need it for supplies to carry on with such a quest for very long. He also thanks Kendes for putting together more funds for their quest via his trading efforts.
Otherwise Valas spends a good deal of time alone with Xymor and his books, especially at night while others sleep and he only meditates for half of the night. He makes notes about the dragon, the half dragon, Xymor's report and other aspects of this first true adventure of his life, and otherwise works on memorizing and practicing the required steps for more spells in his book that he had not yet mastered.
(OOC: LOL at Evendur's broken lance, confusion over a 'bribe', etc. Loving the dumb character!)
"Your mentor!" Kosef says to Kendes. "Amazing. Well. I'm looking for him because I own him a debt. He sent me a note asking to meet in Greenest." Kosef squints into the distance. "My commander in the Baldur's Gate City Watch told me to botch a beheading. He told me to cause pain and suffering to an enemy of one of the dukes rather than give the woman the quick, just death she'd been promised. I was having none of that. So, I found myself unemployed. And with enemies. The duke's men, or they may have been people I knew in the City Watch, surrounded me in an alley. They wore hoods. I would have been overwhelmed if not for Leosin Erlanthar."
"He was... an honorable man. I thought he had a unique perspective. Not one that that prevailed in my family. He agreed to teach me, gods know why... I think he was trying to get the drop on this cult, really. But that was something between himself and my father." Spotting the choker, Kendes goes still. "It looks like he succeeded, at least partially... but he'd never be without that choker. I'm worried. The cultists are always recruiting, but their initiation process is... well... harsh, is a polite way to put it. Leosin is tough, but I wonder if the hazing was tougher."
He looks to the man with the choker.
"Please... help us. The owner of this choker is very important to the both of us. Where did you get this from?"
"You know Master Leosin?" the young man says. "Master Leosin had us come with him on one of his trips here. The town was attacked, and though we managed to fight our way to the keep we lost Master Leosin on the way. When we went back out to look for him, all we found was his choker, and his broken staff." The monk pauses, holding up the choker, which has ripped edges, and then continues. "If you have truly met my master, you know he is a good man. If he is a prisoner of the cultists, he may need your help escaping."
Kosef looks at Kendes and the young man. "Why are we still here, Kendes? We have to get the others, if they want to comes with us, and we have to catch up to those cultists. I would not be living if not for Leosin. He must be found and freed beginning now."
As everyone gathers to depart, Kipio steps towards his companions. He looks up at them, and says, "I'm afraid I won't be coming with you. There are many wounded people here who have need of my abilities. I will miss you, but my place is here, not fighting the cult."
Kendes is about to respond passionately to Kosef, when he catches sight of the bedraggled stuffed toy in the warrior's hand. "... You are right, my friend. But if there's one thing this life has beaten into me, it's that rushing forward with no regard for consequences gets people hurt." He nods at the toy in Kosef's hands. "Our master needs our aid, and we will respond to that call. But somewhere out here, a child also needs your aid, and that is just as, if not more important than our fight here. Children are the hope of the future. Find your ward and give him back his hope first. I'll tell the others what we've discovered."
While Kosef goes hunting for the child, Kendes will find the others and inform them of the situation with Leosin.
"You will be greatly missed Kipio Yellow-foot, protector of ankles. It is a good thing you do helping the people of Greenest in their time of need. We will be sure to send your regards to Tiamat when we see her." Evendur says quite sincerely.
When Kendes informs Evendur of his masters situation he is met by another look of confusion. "So the cultists took your master Leosin prisoner you say, why would they do that? Is this just another testament to their chaotic nature or what interest would they have in holding him captive. I admit there is much of this that I don´t understand, but I do know that we must set your master free from whatever bonds the cultists have placed on him."
Valas undersands Kipio's choice and suddenly realized he may not have another chance to ask the kobold all of the questions he has about his draconic blood. The elf thus sets about following Kipio around while he works, asking questions about his lineage, kobold customs, relations to dragons, dragonborn and the like, behaviors and sentiments of various kobolds depending on color, etc. etc. He tries to be polite, and to help where he can with Kipio's work with the townsfolk perhaps cleaning a wound, bandage or clothing with magic, but no doubt is probably a burden on Kipio while he tries to work.
Otherwise Valas tells the others he is ready to go, and that Xymor is willing to scout ahead once again during their journey.
(OOC: Not actually requesting all of that kobold lore, but the dragon scholar wouldn't pass up his last chance to ask the first kobold he's ever met a million questions!)
Kipio goes around tending to wounds as Valas asks him questions. He answers his questions as best he can, but he seems distracted by the work of carefully setting bones and bandaging wounds. As Valas follows Kipio, he cannot help but notice the miserable faces of scared and injured townspeople. When he helps out, he receives thanks from the people, who marvel at his magical talent to remove dirt.
Kosef struggles to find the boy in the crowded keep, but Evendur's squire Randal had spotted him earlier, and is able to guide Kosef to the child. When Kosef comes over holding the rabbit the boy runs over excitedly. "You brought Bunny back!" he says.
OOC: When everyone is ready to go, we can start the traveling.
"There's no time to waste,"Kendes says, when Kosef returns. He does spare a moment to nod in recognition and thanks to Kipio, but he doesn't allow it to delay his departure.
Kosef says, "We did bring Bunny back." He pauses. "We will all need luck. You and me and those I'm traveling with. Wish it for us!" he says before quickly turning away.
Once he's joined Kendes and the others he urges them on after the raiders.
The boy cries out "Good luck" as Kosef walks away.
You set out into the grasslands. It is a clear day, and the sun shines down pleasantly on your faces. The grass has been trampled, leaving a trail south. After miles of traveling, the grassy hills change to steep rocky plateaus. The plateaus are tall, rising as high as 100 ft. The sides of the plateaus are dotted with caves and crumbling boulder fields.
The owl flies off ahead. It returns with news. While everyone keeps walking, smoke becomes visible in the sky. The owl noticed several creatures gathered around a campfire. The campfire is the source of the smoke. The owl observed this scene:
OOC: Xymor reports the following picture to Valas. If Valas chooses to inform you, or you all keep walking towards the location and look at it for yourselves, you can look under the spoiler. I mostly just put a spoiler because of the picture.
1 square side = 5ft.The dark grey represents large rocks. You cannot walk through the rocks. You arrive from the south.
To position yourself, type which square you would like to go to. I will move your image to that square. I anyone has trouble seeing things on the map, let me know and I can post a bigger map.
Xymor also keeps an eye out for the people he saw earlier, in addition to any new ambushes. He can roll another perception check.
OOC: I noticed I forgot to address the forgotten cutlery from last page. I will just say no owner was found.
Sir Evendur Archebolde rides forth from the keep of Greenest on his mighty steed Bayard wielding his brand new lance and gauntlet adorned shield, ready to do battle as soon as Xymor finds the cave of Lennithon, sun gleaming in his armor, but not in the slightest prepared for any more skulking unless such tactics i suggested to him.
"Yes brave Valas, the sight of your wise owl Xymor will surely pierce any veil of deception the Cult of the Dragon has laid in our path. Once at the camp I will challenge great Lennithon and thereby drawing the cultists attention so that you can free master Leosin from their vile clutches."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Assuming Valas informs about the situation.
"Aha, we will attack them swiftly catching them by surprise which is half the battle." Evendur remarks and, unless stopped, charges off towards the camp.
Evendur initiative:7
Evendur tries to enter the battle together with his companions charging the closest cultist which could put him in N5 depending who is still standing at his initiative count.
(OOC: Do we get surprise? The kobolds look like they are ready for some thunder right?)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
The humans are squabbling over the best way to cook their food when you arrive, so they are easily surprised by a quick attack. The humans have their weapons piled by a rock, out of reach. The kobolds panic.

Human Initiative: 9
OOC: You get surprise. I will update the map with positions once everyone has rolled initiative and moved into a square.
