Nedni moves over and seeing what Gan had done, selects one herself and saves it for later investigation. She studies the various items on the table as well and, with the others lack of success actually bolstering her own courage, hopes that her cooking proficiency might help her here. investigation11 or arcana13
"So this is a mystery, but it might come in handy later. Should we try searching for more books?"Gan says, looking one time under the tables to see if anything's been missed in the room.
Gan's search for additional books comes up empty; Nedni isn't able to figure out the majority of the potions and other items but does recognize something useful: a second red fizzy potion with the smell of roses, which she knows from experience is potion of healing!
Nedni shares this information with Gan to see if the other one might be the same then agrees. "Off to search more rooms. We must find out way out of here."
Gan looks back in the room to see if there are any other similar-looking potions. He’ll also grab any others he sees, now he knows they might be useful!
Unfortunately for Gan there were only the two healing potions, but it was worth a try.
Nedni doesn't find any traps or locks on the door, so Elric opens the door...
This dark, stone-walled room contains only a few objects. A five-foot-diameter circle of intricate runes covers the floor. There’s an empty wooden bookstand opposite the door and bronze braziers at the other three cardinal points of the circle. Whatever material they contained has long ago burned to cinders, but the room still smells of charcoal and sulfur.
Sitting in the middle of the circle of runes is a warty toad. It eyes you warily.

Nedni slips into the room and to the right (in the picture) of the door eyeing the Toad back. "That's quite the little predicament you find yourself in little toad..." She says half to herself. "I may not be any good with magic, but that doesn't look like a natural situation for a toad to find itself in." She says over her shoulder to the group.
She moves slowing towards and against the east wall in the direction of the empty bookstand planning to examine it further and careful not to put herself between any of the objects in the room.

"Hmmm, I can speak with animals if required" says Elric, reaching instinctively for his symbol of Chauntea. But the cleric holds back "Unless what we have here isn't actually a toad, or a beast. Or, you know, real..."

The bookstand, Nedni soon finds, is indeed empty. Zyl and Elric consult with each other and come to the conclusion that this is a summoning circle, and that that the toad was probably summoned.
"Is this like one of those things wizards have? Like as a friend that goes with them everywhere?" Nedni says out loud to the others, then to the Toad without approaching. "Are you a wizards pet?" Not really expecting an answer but worth a try?
Elric identifies them as alchemy reagents, but not their particular use.

"Agreed" says Elric, trying to hide his disappointment that this room did not reveal a greater clue. "On to the door at the bottom of the stairs"
Once they reach the door, Elric opens it.
Nedni examines the potion everyone saw Gan swipe; it is indeed another healing potion.
Elric opens the door at the end of the staircase, revealing...
...another short hall, with two doors, one at the other end and the other to your right. What now?
"First come first served, start with the door on the right?" asks Elric of colleagues.
Nedni nods to Elric. “Sounds good as any.” She checks the door over quickly for traps and locks. stealth 7 if needed.
"Well let's keep track, we don't want to get lost."
Zyl flits nervously from side-to-side looking back and then hovering next to Nedni

The toad says nothing, but squints its eyes at Nedni in a way that almost makes you think it might have understood.
Gan kneels down near the toad, still well away from the circle. "Are you stuck here?"
Nedni grins at the Toad. “You do understand me!” She whispers enthusiastically. “Where is your wizard? The one that called you? Can you show us?”
